Agreed hundred percent. A lot of thinking in Pakistan; this is reflected in the posts in this forum, is very much Salafeen oriented. Mentally most of us are still living in the past when Muslims were the dominent power in the world and consequently have an arrogant attitude. Without the realization of the ground realities of the international situation and what has happened to the Muslim world since the start of the 19th century. In the UK Pakistani and Kashmiri lobby today is strong enough to counter Indians and our entire Naval destroyer fleet is ex UK vessels. There is a very strong possibility that Pakistan would buy additional ex-UK Navy ships.
Every country must understand that there is no charity in this world. Whenever a country helps another, such as China and US aided Pakistan. They are not doing it out of a goodness in their heart but because their policy makers feel that it will serve their country's interests in the long or short term. So don't complain that US has let Pakistan down. This is 'real politik'. Country's policies always give their own interests first priority. If we go against Chinese interests, such as supporting Chinese Ugheer muslims against their government, Chinese policy towards Pakistan would change.
Pakistan is perhaps the only country in the world where the people and the polity dont put Pakistan first. It appears that some people have blinkers on their eyes. IMO this is the main reason why Pakistan is in a mess. This is also reflected in some of the posts (such as the post that you replied which maintained that Pak Military has militants under control). When Pakistanis leaders lobby US and UK to cut off Pakistan's aid for democracy, they are doing it for self intererst and actually hurting Pakistan. PPP is now a hereditary party. Imraan Khan would do the same to anyone who tries to take Leadership of TI from him. Altaf Hussein treats MQM as his personal fief. ANP and JUI leadership has always been in the family as well. Nawaz Sharif made his wife Kulsoom Nawaz the leader whern he was in prison'
These are the people who claim to champion democracy!!. what a farce.
I wouldnt go into details of your post sir, however i would like to highlight certain issues in it where you are wrong.
First of all there is a hell of a difference between a defence agreement and charity works and nowhere in my posts, i said or even tried to say that we need charity work and that too from UK.
Secondly about china, we donot get charity, we pay for whatever we get, from F-22p frigates, to the joint venture of JF-17 and AWACS, we have paid every cost and are paying for what we get.
Third its not me who's relying on the glory days of the past, infact its you, the EX-navy ships you were harping about, those days were cold war days which have been long gone and we need to stop feeling proud about something that even did not had good intentions, all it was meant for to hold a grip on a former part of the british empire. It makes me wonder here that you question chinese intensions and yet you see to neglect the british ones and feel proud about
UK is too busy in trying to establish a relation with india, see the UK PM visit to india in this regard. UK at this time has nothing to offer us interms of defence so to say that UK and pakistan agreed to bolster defence ties is nothing more then a statement. It has been said back aswell on numerous occasions, yet there isnt any sign of defence pact between the two nations, if there is then let me know as well, otherwise we need to stop waisting our time relying on the past and need to get involved with real strategic relationships with countries, who are actually serious about one and does not solely rely on statements.
