Pakistan, UK agree to bolster defence ties

"So where did AQ come in from? Or you did not find anyother option better, then putting the killing of an al-qaeda leader into the equation."

I'm not the one who used an absolute such as "always", remember?-

"Truth is always bitter..."

A refresher for you of your earlier comment. This is one case, as example, which contradicts your claim. That it involves an AQ commander is coincidental.

"Otherwise there isnt a damn thing related to defence between UK and Pakistan other then some sort of security pact on terrorism."

Which is considerably more than "... solely exist[ing] on statements such as in this case".

Hi,

I believe that there is a close to billion dollar trade with the uk and quite a bit of it is defence related items. I remember Tony Blair made that comment a couple of years ago when he was the PM.

Bottomline is that it is stupid " to look a gift horse in the mouth ".

Some of you kids need to change your approach and outlook towards foreign relations and procurements. There is too much sarcasm in your comments---there is too much insult in your commentary about those from whom we benefit---this board needs to be a learning eprerience---.

Agreed hundred percent. A lot of thinking in Pakistan; this is reflected in the posts in this forum, is very much Salafeen oriented. Mentally most of us are still living in the past when Muslims were the dominent power in the world and consequently have an arrogant attitude. Without the realization of the ground realities of the international situation and what has happened to the Muslim world since the start of the 19th century. In the UK Pakistani and Kashmiri lobby today is strong enough to counter Indians and our entire Naval destroyer fleet is ex UK vessels. There is a very strong possibility that Pakistan would buy additional ex-UK Navy ships.

Every country must understand that there is no charity in this world. Whenever a country helps another, such as China and US aided Pakistan. They are not doing it out of a goodness in their heart but because their policy makers feel that it will serve their country's interests in the long or short term. So don't complain that US has let Pakistan down. This is 'real politik'. Country's policies always give their own interests first priority. If we go against Chinese interests, such as supporting Chinese Ugheer muslims against their government, Chinese policy towards Pakistan would change.

Pakistan is perhaps the only country in the world where the people and the polity dont put Pakistan first. It appears that some people have blinkers on their eyes. IMO this is the main reason why Pakistan is in a mess. This is also reflected in some of the posts (such as the post that you replied which maintained that Pak Military has militants under control). When Pakistanis leaders lobby US and UK to cut off Pakistan's aid for democracy, they are doing it for self intererst and actually hurting Pakistan. PPP is now a hereditary party. Imraan Khan would do the same to anyone who tries to take Leadership of TI from him. Altaf Hussein treats MQM as his personal fief. ANP and JUI leadership has always been in the family as well. Nawaz Sharif made his wife Kulsoom Nawaz the leader whern he was in prison'

These are the people who claim to champion democracy!!. what a farce.

MK and Niaz,

Very pragmatic posts.

Always a pleasure to see some sense being spoken that is in consonance with the political and strategic reality, even if the reality is not palatable.

Isnt trade and defence cooperation two different things? How is this an insult? What i said is that with UK we only have a cooperation related to terrorism and not defence and let me say it again not defence, unless you want to continue relate defence and terrorism in the same category. This is not insult but truth and we need to stop living in the days of fantasies.

I am not riding MK or Niaz's shoulders lest I am accused of that by you. Icecold.

May I suggest you read the posts to realise what they are saying.

The essence is what is critical to the issue.

I wouldnt go into details of your post sir, however i would like to highlight certain issues in it where you are wrong.

First of all there is a hell of a difference between a defence agreement and charity works and nowhere in my posts, i said or even tried to say that we need charity work and that too from UK.

Secondly about china, we donot get charity, we pay for whatever we get, from F-22p frigates, to the joint venture of JF-17 and AWACS, we have paid every cost and are paying for what we get.

Third its not me who's relying on the glory days of the past, infact its you, the EX-navy ships you were harping about, those days were cold war days which have been long gone and we need to stop feeling proud about something that even did not had good intentions, all it was meant for to hold a grip on a former part of the british empire. It makes me wonder here that you question chinese intensions and yet you see to neglect the british ones and feel proud about:disagree:

UK is too busy in trying to establish a relation with india, see the UK PM visit to india in this regard. UK at this time has nothing to offer us interms of defence so to say that UK and pakistan agreed to bolster defence ties is nothing more then a statement. It has been said back aswell on numerous occasions, yet there isnt any sign of defence pact between the two nations, if there is then let me know as well, otherwise we need to stop waisting our time relying on the past and need to get involved with real strategic relationships with countries, who are actually serious about one and does not solely rely on statements.

Not really,

I was just digging it in that you are a blind man, hallucinating feverishly without logic!

Look who's talking. If you can criticize someone by means of others, learn to accept it as well.

I have rested my case!

People can see if I rest on others laurels.

Once an American and then two Pakistanis!

I resolve paradoxes, right?
