Pakistan to get $600mn under US program: Pentagon

sir jee last week i lost one of my jigs fighting in NW, Personally attended his funeral prayer. The time he was laid to the grave i asked my self a question that what price we are paying and what would we get in return . I felt so sad for lossing one of my best friends. Just dont have words to explain the sorrow ...
Just need to know how much blood would it cost to go into NW, and all those dollars are worth of it ??

The situation in North Waziristan is entirely different from Swat or even South Waziristan. In Swat, all the locals hated the TTP Taliban and wanted the Pakistan army to get rid of them, there was 100% support for Pakistan army in Swat thats why it was a huge success. In South Waziristan, again TTP Taliban problem most of the locals supported the Pakistan army in that operation.

In North Waziristan, the militant groups there are not TTP Taliban, they are against the foreign invaders in Afghanistan, they have no problems with Pakistan or Pakistani people and the locals there also have no problems with them. If Pakistan attacks North Waziristan it will be a living nightmare for everyone. The locals wont support the operation, more suicide bombings in our cities as revenge, and Pakistan army will have to fight against a stronger force that even the world's largest army and armies from 7 nations can not defeat when combined.

Its time Pakistanis start thinking like the rest of the world. 3,000 people got killed in 9/11 in U.S. and U.S. and NATO killed more than a million people in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Pakistan since 9/11. For Americans, 1 American life is far more precious than a Pakistani, Iraqi, or Afghani life. Pakistanis should start behaving the same and believe that a Pakistani life is more precious than others.

TTP Taliban are already defeated thanks to Pakistan army and people of Pakistan especially the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Finally theres peace in our cities, no news of suicide bombings lately. Why disrupt the peace and make new enemies who is far stronger than TTP taliban.

Because it would appear that the TTP, Al Qaeda, LeJ and various other groups, many directly responsible for the terrorism in Pakistan, the attacks on markets and innocent civilians, have been given shelter in NW.

The Taliban spokesperson in NW stated that PA soldiers cannot even get water from a nearby stream without the Taliban allowing them to do so, so how is it that all these enemies of the State find shelter there?

To argue that the NW Taliban are not sheltering enemies of Pakistan and therefore facilitating their terrorist activities against Pakistan is to stick our heads in the sand.

While I am not informed enough to comment on the military's decision on when and if to go into NW, given whatever constraints they face, I think it is obvious that the current state of affairs in NW is untenable and cannot exist for long.

The TTP, AQ and associated groups have proven themselves to be consumed by hatred and a lust for power and expansionism. As they showed in Swat and Buner, eventually, if left alone in NW, they will strike out more and more frequently into neighboring agencies and mainstream Pakistan. The cost of acting against them then, when they are far more powerful and with a greater capacity to carry out terrorism in all of Pakistan, will be far greater than the cost of acting against therm now.

Well said bro

I dunno what is wrong with us !! Evey few days we come up with a mindset that we need to go for talks with Taliban specially after the US started to think of this option.

The problem is that US has to move out whichever way it is easier for them but we cannot let these people live, because after dialogues we are not getting on board a plane to thousands of miles away, as long as they are breathing they are a threat for us.

If we will ignore them and go for a peace agreement it will be the biggest mistake, they should be crushed down a gap of even a month gives them the oppurtunity to recover from the loss and gain strength. In past there have been many discussions and peace agreements with Taliban and we have learnt a good lesson from those deals too.

If NW Talibans have no issue with Pakistan then why do they offer shelter to TTP? They are indirectly supporting ttp and help it regroup and escape from army offensive. If Taliabn in NW declare a clear stance and alienate themselves from TTP then dialogue can be considered as the last among the other options.

WE MUST FIGHT TILL THE LAST DROP OF BLOOD IS IN THEIR VEINS!!

Well, we've got to kill them or get killed.NW and SW is cluster **** and terrorists from all over the world are residing there..We have to fight with or without US Support.I'd much rather have US Support.

Asalam-o-Alikum Everyone !

I am new member here, but i am old forum user at different sites,
I love to discuss, Thats why I am here.

I want to say, Killing our Muslims Brother for Peanuts is not more than a poppycock effort. Our Islam teaches us moderation, but for the sake of Almighty Dollar we have not only forgotten our Religion but also the codes of humanity.

We have to understand the following issues;

1) Why Suddenly Taliban Stood Against Pakistan?

Reasons, might be different, for instance, We should not forget the incident of Lal Masjid, Corruption at high level, and no infra structure or Government development projects in NWFP and Balouchinstan.

2) Were Taliban Our Friends ?

Yes ! We have many examples, Who Killed B.B ? Offcourse one of the time bomb of Taliban and whole world knows who asked them to do so ? So, keep that aside that Taliban are sudden disease of the land of Pakistan. Also We should not forget Operation Flag ( Building up TALIBAN against Soveiet Union with the help of US )

3) What Taliban Wants ?

Taliban simply wants what every human being looks for himself. PERSONAL PRIVACY AND SECURITY. Example, even if we become raider to the fiefdom of animals, they will attack us, if we annoy them they will response, If we force orthodox to change his religion definitely he will retaliate, Thats What Taliban faced in our recent past.
Taliban do not want to allow anyone to inter-fair in their region.

If we look back into the history, we will understand that Jinnah gave them assurity to let them live on their rules under the geographical design of Pakistan. So ! We should keep our promises.

The cost of acting against them then, when they are far more powerful and with a greater capacity to carry out terrorism in all of Pakistan, will be far greater than the cost of acting against therm now.

It would be a nerve testing battle in NW. Hopefully the efforts of all those who are martyred go rewarded. PA has faced huge number of Casualties in NW and number is rising with an average of one soldier per day.

If we do attack North Waziristan , then we should use more air-to-ground attack and run the campagin in our time so that we minimize groud troop casulties.

The PAF's air-to-ground capability seems to have greatly improved , the air attacks on militant targets in Orakzai have been devestating and apart from that one incendent they have been on target

Over 600 militants have been busted in the on going campaign against them in Orakzai , with 18 loosses on Pakistan's side

600 militants killed in Orakzai

This is impressive.

The improvement in the air-to-ground attack capability of the PAF could be as a result of the sniper pods for the F-16s + the newer version of Paveway LGBs that were recently provided along with improved intelligence on ground about the targets.

So if at all we do go into NW for the final showdown we must rely on similar tactics that are being used in Orakzai agency so as to minimize ground troop casulaties.

And the United States defintly has the tools to finish the job which they should provide to us. ( at the very least )

Recent developments show that the Pakistan armed froces have now a much better stratergy against the millitants than they had 5 six years back.

The long term is beneficial for us. If we get control of it, than the taxes, tourism, industries, etc. that will be developed will outweigh the cost of going in.

The reason they can't be defeated in Afghanistan is because its too big. NW is not as big as Afghanistan. It will be much easier to control.

That, or we can just declare NW as a separate country and allow the militants to set up their government.

Pakistan receives $468 million from US security fund

Wednesday, 05 May, 2010

KARACHI: Pakistan's central bank said on Wednesday it had received $468 million from the United States in compensation for some of its costs in battling militancy.

The US embassy in Islamabad said on Tuesday it had released $656 million to Pakistan from its so-called coalition support fund (CSF) for some costs incurred last year, with $188 million transferred last week and another $468 million on Monday.

“We received $468 million last night,” said Syed Wasimuddin, chief spokesman for the State Bank of Pakistan.

The bank said on Tuesday it had received the first $188 million last Friday.

The CSF is a US programme to reimburse allies that have incurred costs in supporting counter-terrorist and counter-insurgency operations.

Pakistan's role in the battle against militants has been highlighted in recent days with the arrest in the United States of a Pakistani-American in connection with a botched car bomb in New York's Times Square.

The US funds come at an important time for cash-strapped Pakistan which is in negotiations with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for the release of a fifth tranche of an $11.3 billion loan.

The IMF board is expected to meet in mid-May to consider the fifth tranche of the loan, worth about $1.15 billion. The IMF has been pressing Pakistan to increase electricity tariffs and implement a value-added tax.

The central bank said the $188 million will be reflected in foreign exchange data to be released on Thursday, covering the week that ended on April 30. The remaining $468 million will be reflected in data to be released next week.

Foreign exchange reserves eased to $14.98 billion in the week that ended on April 23.

Foreign reserves hit a record high of $16.5 billion in October 2007 but fell steadily to $6.6 billion by November 2008, largely because of a soaring import bill.

NACH MERE BULBUL TO PAISA MILEGA ...
AISA QADARDAN YAHAN KAISA MILEGA

We are suffering losses of US$ 10-12 b / year in our zest to fight the US war on terror (or sort!); and are very happy getting a net subsidy of about US$ 2.5 b / year including this tranche of US$ 600 m. We are a miserably poor but very generous nation; getting paid a lowly salary of about US$ 60 / head!

Israel and Georgia get a rather honorable subsidy of about US$ 850 per head, without killing maiming its citizens or declaring 60% of their territory as a war zone!.

About 1/3rd of our forces (140,000) and about 60% of our logistics resources are deployed in FATA and Swat (Pushtoon area).

Even with such a heavy deployment the situation is far from stabilized. These areas are not open for business to anyone. Nobody can risk a holiday in Swat or trading in Bajaur or South Waziristan.

North Waziristan means an additional commitment of 30,000-40,000 troops.

This is leading to Bhutanization of Pakistan, our territorial integrity depends on how long can the USA keep India in good humor.

Our Military leadership is guilty of compromising our national security and territorial integrity through goal substitution .... neglecting True boot national defense and waging a phony foreign war on its own soil against own people.
