Pakistan will attend the three-day international conference being organised by the Election Commission of India (ECI) in the Capital this week. However, Islamabad has decided against sending a senior representative for the event. Shakeel Ahmed Baloch, member, Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), was initially expected to attend the conference, but now Altaf Ahmed, director (public relations and political finance), ECP, will be present in his place. ECI officials admitted that the change was last minute, but attributed it to an ongoing local election in Pakistan which demands Baloch’s time and
India-Pakistan relations have hit a rough patch ever since the terrorist attack on an army base in Uri. India

pulled out of the SAARC summit which was to be hosted by Pakistan in November. The war of words between the two countries also reached the UN with India condemning Pakistan as a terrorist state.

On Monday, the ECI first told reporters that Pakistan had decided to not attend the international conference but then later informed that Ahmed would attend in Baloch’s place. “He will arrive tomorrow,” said an ECI official.

The first-ever global conference on voter education is being organised by the Election Commission in association with the UNDP with the main purpose of exchanging the experiences of election management bodies. The conference is being attended by representatives of 27 countries.

The conference will deliberate upon five topics ranging from electoral literacy to enhanced participation by special categories of voters. The commission will also launch an NRI survey-cum-competition with an aim of gathering useful data and also attracting and engaging NRIs about their voting eligibility and rights.

After Our Iron brother China and new friend Russia stun India, India is inviting us?:lol:

I think, next step would be requesting and inviting Pakistani actors and actress back to their normal routine work by them.

If situation was normal I am sure Pakistan election commission could learn few things from their Indian counterparts. There are no complaints of Dhandali in India barring few incidents at remote places. India must do what it can to help strengthen the civilian government in Pakistan.

I consider Indian electoral system better than Pakistan's. Seeing our system, there is a lot to learn and if we can have improved election commission in Pakistan we will benefit in long term.

The problem is that the Pakistani election commission is happily corrupt and they don't want to change

Hats off to the OP. He believes it was because of of China and Russia that we invited Pakistan. Its in our interest to protect the endangered democracy in your country mate and also because its in association with United Nations.

Election Commission of India is one of the best organizations in its class across the globe. They just wanted to share their challenges and expertise. If you want to learn a thing or two join, if not, you are free to boycott. The choice is always yours.
