Amur is far better than U-212. If you even talk about U-214 then there is a valid point. BrahMos Aerospace Lmt has already designed the 'designs' for integration of BrahMos in Amur.

India has a big coast. It needs more the Pakistan. But looking at what Pakistan is buying... Doesn't sound like a little improvement to me but almost an overkill.

Its not TOT but Overall IPR agreement which Russia was insisting on since Russia and India will be working to gether on many such projects after success of Brahmos.

Oh! I didnt know that. In any case, why would you prefer U-212 over Amur then??
Amur is far better than Kilo class subs by a substantial margin even though they are smaler. And Kilo's still rock!
Amur itself is not entirely Russian. It was done by Russia and Italy.

Exactly and thats what i am against, it being smaller cant take that many missiles, If missile firing is the case, i suggest Russian Sub but for that amur is not the right choice;

If it is just another sub- line , 212 is far better.Composites and Acoustic Signature reduction etc, better AIP etc

I thnk you should read up on Amur, it is a superb Hunter killer sub. Its not meant as a standalone sub going out in deep sea. Its essentially for hunting-killing other subs. I agree, that if we want BrahMos on a sub, better to go with U-212, but the point is that the integration will cost us a fortune, not to mention convince Russia and Germany to do it. Amur is Russian-Italian, BrahMos is Indo-Russian. Not a problem.

Russians will not allow the Germans to integrate it. and even it is not big enough
I have read up on the Amur, there lot of people like gf-aust and even indian members who are not impressed by that sub in regards to its purpose in india

One should not judge what a product is on 'Paper' alone. Amur may be better on paper.

U-214 is an excellent Sub and as good an SSk as any. Besides, Germany have a very long history of making great SSK's. No offense to Russian technical expertise; any time time I have to choose between a Russian and a German product of roughly equal specs, I would pick German any time!!.

U214 downgraded, do you have a source to confirm this.
the germans operate the U212 and the U214 is for export but that does not neccesarily mean its downgraded.

That is not true. The Russians are excellent submarine builders, the OLD Kilo class is still a nightmare for any country and China operates them as their pride. The Kilo 2 absolutely ROCKS! I think its finishing construction. And btw Amur was built by Russia and Italy together.
