The commentary by the fellow is suggests is suffering from pakistan hate syndrome, many "including myself" have praised the launch of Mars mission by India. Something our space gurus can learn from.

Yes I agree if we do first strike it would not be just one cities it would be several cities off India and there would be no one left in India to strike back
thats why are working on submarine based second strike..

Dear, second or third strike capabilities matter only on paper for us. Surely it will make your enemy think twice but if they are wise enough, they would already be doing that, Tactically, such thing are important for enemies that are far apart, like Russia and America. In our case a second strike capability is not all that fancy as it sounds. If God Forbade, Pakistan launch simultaneous attack on 25 Indian cities (as mentioned in a post above) with nuclear bombs what you think will happen? It will wipe out India but what many people fail to understand or comprehend is what will be its effect on Pakistan?? we share land border, water ways, heck even we share the summer and winter air (monsoon etc) 25 nukes blasting in India will wipe out India but it wont be the only thing these will WIPE OUT!! there will be massive radioactive fallout that will effect Pakistan as well. We will suffer a lot too. So whether India strikes second or not wont be that much important as many or our land will be contaminated with our own nukes already!! Same goes for India. If they drop nuclear bombs on us you can name tens of cities, almost half of India, its western side will be massively effected by the radioactive fallout of there own bombs. Rest of the country will also face consequence!!
Chernobly was an industrial accident, the radio active particles spread out over all or Europe and Western USSR. Here we are talking about specifically designed nuclear weapons, and for that matter, not one or two but 20 or 30 bombs. Imagine what will happen.
In short, nuclear wars are not meant to be fought between neighbors, who ever starts it, even if one of us use them, both of us will be effected and almost destroyed. The whole world will be effected!
These things that we keep on developing are just to ensure that we are not the only one that lose the war. Tactical nukes are understandably important but and all out nuclear war will be MAD, both as a acronym as well as the literal meaning of the word!
Peace!

sorry, I did not want to apprear as somebody who wants to nuke each other. But because @Zarvan basically implied that whoever strikes first has upper hand, and considering India's no first use policy it puts us at disadvantage.
To which I replied we are developing second strike capability (submarine launched) that will ensure MAD, incase most decision makers are dead in India. We should also place a command structure that will ensure MAD happens as expected.

Pakistan might seek to have second strike capability(for reason known to her leadership) but our effort is a direct consequence of no first use and minimum credible deterrence policy.

Very stupid, that literally means Pakistan wont exist on this planet.

no i am not saying that you are the guy that is willing to nuke others :) just telling you what i think will come out of nuclear war. The whole world will feel the heat.
Regarding second strike capability, as i mentioned i looks good on defense portfolio. It strikes fear into opponents heart and is a credible deterrent indeed against a nuclear attack.
Regarding why our government is seeking second strike capability, for exactly same reasons as your government. You understand that we have never been on good terms, with three wars fought, the Kashmir issue and all those enmities we both DO NOT trust each other with what is being SAID! In case of a war, both sides will want to be prepared for the worst and i think is right of both sides. What is the duty of both sides is that things do not come to this point.

Well I stand by my point if Pakistan strikes first it would mean not strike on one city but almost all of India so there is no question of 2nd strike

uff... thats exactly why I said India is working on sea based capability.. which can do second strike. Can you be 100 percent sure that you have taken out all our submarines?

Indian 3rd strike is not operational and neither is Pakistan's and the gap between one getting operational and the other will not be very long. Nuke sub are not necessarily needed for a 3rd strike. For third strike you don't have to worry about running out of fuel but running out o food. So AIPs are as good as Nuke subs and are already operational with PN. A little modification can add tube launched nuke missiles. Albeit a short term, short range solution until longer range vertical sub launched missiles can be introduced. So don't be so excited, we don't sit idle.

lolz... I dont get excited easily.. :p:
instead of running in circles, here is the point I was trying to make, for the last time. For India, second strike capability is a must, due to no first use policy. Specifically wrt pakistan, there is little chance of we violating our own policy due to disparity in conventional force between the countries. For pakistan however nukes are a deterrent against India, so her policy will be to use it when threatended enough.
Now a pakistani nuke submarine does not change scenario drastically for us as most of India can be reached from pakistani long range missiles anyway.
Peace.
