Pakistan, Tanzania sign defence cooperation agreement

Air Chief Marshal Tahir Rafique Butt, Chief of the Air Staff, Pakistan Air Force signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Defence Co-operation with the Government of Tanzania on behalf of the Government of Pakistan. Signing of this first ever historic MoU would be instrumental in formalising staff talks, initiating mutual exchanges, strengthening military ties between the two countries.

It would open new vistas of collaboration in the domain of operations, training, maintenance, security and information technology between the two countries. Earlier in the day, Air Chief Marshal Tahir Rafique Butt visited the Air Headquarters of Tanzania Air Force. On his arrival, he was received by Major General Joseph Furaha Kapwani, Commander Tanzania Air Force. A smartly turned out contingent presented him the Guard of Honour.

He was introduced to the Principal Staff Officers of Tanzania Air Force. He also attended a briefing on the organisation, role and functioning of Tanzania Air Force. Later on, the Air Chief called on Major General Joseph Furaha Kapwani, Commander Tanzania Air Force in his office. During the meeting, matters pertaining to professional interest came under discussion. The Air Chief expressed satisfaction on the current level of co-operation between the two Air Forces and agreed to explore new avenues for enhancing bilateral co-operation.

Another potential JF-17 coustomer

Tanz doesnt have that kind of amount to buy. but cooporation would open new avenues for Pakistan.

The issues is mostly political pressures. Now Egypt gets a lot of aid from the US. They will not buy any fighter without US approval. The same goes for many countries who have strong US 'ties'.

Africa is a market that will be more suited to Chinese products which are cheap but effective and easier to maintain.

our factories produce a lot more then the JF 17 and deals in small and medium arms also will be good boost of revenue for the factories.

Tanzania manufactures its own small arms and ammo. That which it does not manufacture is mostly bought from South Africa. If Pakistan has any hope of ousting South Africa in its favor as Tanzania's preferred seller of small and medium use arms, then that will be a tough if not impossible hope. Given the location and the years of production together with the type of weapons being used on a terrain need, South Africa remains a tough competition for Pakistan

AIR CHIEF CALLS ON DEFENCE MINISTER OF TANZANIA

ISLAMABAD 30 JANUARY, 2015: - Air Chief Marshal Tahir Rafique Butt, Chief of the Air Staff, Pakistan Air Force called on Dr Hussein, Defence Minister of Tanzania, today. Both the dignitaries remained together for some time and discussed matters of defence and military cooperation. The Air Chief assured the Defence Minister of Tanzania of enhancing military cooperation between the two countries in general and the two Air Forces in particular. Later on souvenirs were also exchanged between the two dignitaries at the occasion. The Air Chief is on an official visit to Tanzania on the special invitation of Tanzanian Air Force.
