ISLAMABAD, June 5 (Xinhua) -- The ongoing fuel shortage, especially of gasoline, has caused serious difficulties to businesses as well as citizens for the fifth consecutive day across Pakistan, local media reported on Friday.

Video footages telecasted at local Urdu TV channels showed long queues of motor riders at fuel stations to fill their vehicles' tanks.

According to local media reports, the fuel shortage started because of the stopped or minimized supplies to fuel stations by the private oil companies after the central government reduced fuel prices on Monday.

Majority of the fuel stations across the country, including in the major cities of Karachi, Lahore, Quetta, Faisalabad and Rawalpindi, have been closed by the owners to avoid people's rage.

The fuel stations, which have the stock of petrol, have increased the price of the commodity by more than 100 percent, the reports said.

Earlier on Thursday, the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA), the regulator of the oil business in the country, issued a statement saying that there was no shortage of gasoline and the country's oil stocks are sufficient and it is trying to know the reason behind the slow supplies.

The regulator also issued show-cause notices to oil marketing companies seeking explanations and reasons for the petrol shortage at the fuel stations.

However, the fuel stations association and the public rejected the claims made by OGRA and said that majority of the fuel stations have no gasoline at all and oil companies are running short of the stocks.

The Competition Commission of Pakistan has initiated an inquiry into the issue saying that the sudden shortage of fuel across the country at a time when the government has reduced prices and low demand due to the COVID-19 pandemic raised suspicion that artificial shortage might have been created.

Guys how true is this? and why is the GOVT not stepping in to do something about it?

Its true, there is huge shortage of petrol. Mamy petrol stations are not even giving any petrol. Few PSO petrol pumps are giving 100 rupees per bike while they open it for few hours only.

Fuel shortage is there in cities other than Islamabad.

It was there in outskirts of Islamabad as well but shell pump on motorway intersection received a truck today to replenish stock.

I had to fill up on hi-octane instead as I had to go somewhere urgently.

The shortage is due to the companies haggling on prices and is not really a supply issue.

Saare hi zakheera andoz hain.

I saw on TV, PTI loyal analysts are giving justifications that due to price reduction, public is buying extra fuel, they gave example: ''People who use to buy 500PKR petrol are now buying 1100PKR petrol''
If i believe this BS, than i have a question to the clever looking state... when international prices of crude oil were low or even in minus, why didn't they reduce fuel prices, so that people may store petrol in their cars and motor bikes, creating space for national storage!
Govt. and public both may have profited, govt. could have saved $billions, depending on how much they import when prices were 0$/barrel.
All they needed to do was run refineries at full production, but there were no such claims made by Imran Khan mafia that refineries are running at full capacity.
Why shouldn't NAB investigate this negligence of enemies of public ruling Pakistan.

What's the annual oil import bill... $15 billion!?
If i was PM, at least i would have announced free petrol for all Pakistanis unless i spend those $15 billion as subsidy, instead of paying it to international oil market.

The oil has to be processed into petrol which costs money. Honestly we need martial law because civilians are too incompetent and undisciplined to run the country effectively.

Yes... Spend those$15 billion of import bill locally.
give tax relief to refineries if it helps, order IPP to run at full capacity, give subsidy to railway, public transport, even industry.
Or even employ all nation in building crude oil storage tanks at Gawadar etc.
If China can build hospital in 10 days, we can sure build hundreds of those storage tanks in 10 days.
