Pakistan snubs India over bulletproof car at SAARC summit

he drives the exact same vehicle.....and that too despite the fact that PM office has supply of S550 Benz cars and previous gen. versions acquired under Musharraf admin.
A bit cheeky of Mr Sharif!

In India the official vehicle of the PM has been the 760Li since around 2002, since then the SPG (in charge of the PM's security) have expanded the fleet and bought newer generations as they came out.

But I'm a bit surprised the PM of Pakistan would bother to change his official vehicle on his own and for what reason if the cars are there and ready to be used?

it wouldnt be ironic....though i did think indian would have offered some clankety old "ambassador" car
Maybe if it had been up to the Indian side but the Nepali government requested bulletproof high-end vehicles so the Indians had to provide the BMWs.

He does a lot of things which are hard to describe. I guess he likes Bimmers. Even in his second regime he tried to "bribe" and butter up a serving Chief of Army Staff (Gen. Asif Nawaz) by offering him a 7 series and get rid of his Corolla car. Latter refused of course.

some of the other top officials / crooks of Pakistan use the S-class cars but he likes to be different i guess

so how does india benefit from any of this?

As cars for all dignitaries came from India, what was wrong with not using one? Car bugged perhaps? What the hell would he have spoken while in the car that could have been classified? The poor soul, himself, has no classified info, no one trusts him with such info in the first place! :P

ISI didn't clear it. ;)

I don't know if Gulfstream Pak-One can carry a vehicle. Other specs of this aircraft are awesome.

Can imagine the quality of car provided by India. This is worth reporting as good sense rarely prevails over Nawaz Sharif.

Did Mr Sharif pay the BMWs out of his own pocket then? If it was just about his preference and not actually what the govt of Pakistan had wasn't good enough (S500) from a security perspective.

The irony is that Mr Sharif was offered (by India) the exact car he will be flying out from Pakistan- the 760Li Security.

@Abu Zolfiqar I'm quite interested in these things (head of state protection/motorcades), and now you've piqued my interest about the set up in Pakistan, can please you provide anything like these:

But for Pakistan (your PM and or President)?

Did he bring his own car when he visited India in May? I don't think so. If I am not mistaken he was given a pullman guard in Delhi. So why now? It's the same freaking car that he uses (760Li) ffs. And if he was worried about it being bugged, then simply don't discuss classified information inside the car which I am sure they don't anyway. This does not make any sense other than playing to typical Pakistani fragile ego.

No one from Pakistan asked India to provide cars.

A very good point that had alluded me. When Mr Sharif visited India earlier this year he was did not bring his own car and seemed happy enough to make use of the S600 the GoI had provided to him. So what has changed?

Within this in mind, this move to reject the Indian offer is is clear pettiness.
