What's new

Pakistan says Indian ballistic missile system a destabilizing development.

Though having such technology for stopping accidental/rogue/limited launches is no doubt worth pursuing, but hoping to prevent all-out attacks is a bit naive, specially when you know that the adversary, has and always will, find a way to counter that technology.

On first part, even China is investing in mid course interception. And if it wasn't a piece of technology worth pursuing then they wouldn't have been putting money on that. And eventually there will be directed energy weapons by the end of this decade or decade and a half.

Instead of spending money on measures, counter-measures and counter-counter-measures, both countries should agree on guaranteed mutual destruction in case of a nuclear war, and spend it on mutual trade.

Do you really think that thing is plausible given the present condition of Pakistan?

But it would also drain already unstable economy of adversary.

No this won't happen ever ever, since we have to counter CHINA also and in due course of countering China , Pakistan would be automatically taken care of.And one more thing we hate grtting bracketed with Pakistan in our MILLI TRY MIGHT.

India do have MAD option for pak...

Yes, but BMD might give false assurances to Indian military planners for 'hot-pursuits' kind of stuff.

You do have a point there, but in my opinion functional BMDs (and the related R&D) is something only the super-powers can afford.
Of course, Directed Energy BMDs might become a nightmare for older nuclear forces in a decade.

Do you really think that thing is plausible given the present condition of Pakistan?

I know it isn't, but leaders of both countries should try at least. Hope the new leadership does something in this regard.

But it would also drain already unstable economy of adversary.

No it won't, trust me. Relatively, the counter-measures come really cheap.

Fine by me.

How can a Defensive system be a destabilizing factor? - the Guy wants Pakistani missiles to be unchallenged when it's launched against a city like Mumbai, Delhi or Bangalore? Both of India's adversaries are loose cannons and always provoking us for a war or a conflict and the most dangerous aspect is both possess nuclear weapons :hitwall:

Is he even serious to assume that we will not develop a shield against such war mongers?

.
I don't get that point of the discussion here... Is the Foreign Affairs guy saying why's India shoring up her defences or trying to justify Pakistan's missile development program?

It does seem like someone asked him a question on Pakistan's missile program and he gave a respone and we're making a storm in a cup, for something which is only a single quote of a larger discussion??? Don't understand why a Foreign office guy just make a statement like this otherwise...

routine statements, issued by representatives of both the countries..

No one gives a shyt what pakistanis have to say

Why? Your budget can't keep up?

Hardly destabilizing at all, Pakistan quickly realized the situation and counter-measures are being put in place already. In two years, India (DRDO) might be forced to reconsider its position and spending on Ballistic Missile Defense (except for 2-3 key locations).

it follows a course followed by a predator vs prey competion in nature.
You fine tune MIRVs...we become smarter with our ABM techbology.
MIRV is a solid technology and takes years to master. There is no absolute solution to multiple warheads considering a non 100% kill ration for a BMD.
Having said that, most of the missiles will not have MIRV and it is imperative that we cover the basics early as far as BMD is concerned.

.
Why should Pakistan be concerned? Majority of its cities are just a stone throw away from the other side of the International Border. Prithvi is more than enough for that.

India has little choice here not to go for BMD, considering Pakistan considered using nuclear weapons in Kargil conflict.

Interesting that it has been a secret and quick successful program, though will need time to mature and be operational.

I guess Pakistani concern is because they are well aware, that Indian BMDs are primarily to counter Pakistani BM threat.

Within a year or two, DRDO will have required technology to counter missiles of range 2000-5000km. In short, to counter Chinese ballistic missile. And then they'll move toward exo atmospheric Mid-course interception to target ICBMs.

Chanakyans will always follow the path of aggressive hegemonism. The good news is that Ballistic missile defense system is unreliable and counter technologies have grown by leaps and bounds with far less investment. Even US ballastic missiles won't score 100% hit rate and won't be able to defend all their military installations and cities from a nuclear attack. India is a zillion years behind. BMD is astronomically expensive and in order to counter a sophisticated missile force it would require a large enough no. to put up a face saving show.
PAK needs to invest in offensive technologies like Cruise missiles, countermeasures such as chaff and flares, reduced RCS etc. These will be much cheaper alternative and will render the Indian BMD useless while milking them dry. Besides India borders PAK and reaction time to incoming PAK attack will be next to impossible.
