Pakistan rebukes US lawmakers who belittled its anti-terror efforts

Yeah they are echoing it alright just on Indian money.

If India was so influential over US Congress, it would have stopped all aid to Pakistan and have it declared a terrorist state. Indian influence, though vast, is overstated. No, there's a genuine anti-Pakistan within Congress and in the US in general.

Islamabad's resolve wipe out terrorism was "second to none

Let's ignore the tacit support of terror groups. You jailed the guy who helped catch Osama Bin Laden instead of making him a hero. You welcome hijackers and UN designated terrorists to live and roam freely while plotting attacks on others. I would not remotely call that second to none.

Americans have forgotten it was they who came to us for our support post 9-11, now that there work is done they are just doing what they do best................this is not the first time for us to confirm they are friends only when they need something.

WASHINGTON - Pakistan told a group of American lawmakers and experts who derided it's counterterrorism efforts at a Congressional hearing on Tuesday that Islamabad's resolve wipe out terrorism was "second to none."

"We need not remind the skeptics that no country has suffered more from terrorism than Pakistan," Nadeem Hotiana, a spokesman of the Pakistani Embassy in Washington said on Thursday while commenting on their testimonies, some of them derogatory to Pakistan, at the hearing, entitled "Pakistan: A Friend of Foe in the Fight Against Terrorism."

The hearing was initiated byRepublican Congressman Ted Poe, a pro-India campaigner at Capitol Hill, who joined the calls for cutting off aid to Pakistan and listing it as a "State sponsoring terrorism."

"Positive counter-terrorism cooperation between the two countries has been widely acknowledged by the leadership of the two countries," Hotiana said, while reminding Pakistan's critics that that US and Pakistan have been partners in the anti-terror campaign.

"In the October 2015 Joint Statement of President Obama and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, President (Barack) Obama, affirmed Pakistan’s role as a key counterterrorism partner and recognised the sacrifices that Pakistani civilians, military, and law-enforcement personnel have made over the years as they confront terrorism and militant groups," he said.

"Both leaders also renewed their common resolve to promote peace and stability throughout the region and to counter all forms of extremism and terrorism.

"Chairman Armed Services Committee, Senator John McCain, after a recent visit to Pakistan and seeing firsthand the results of military operations in North Waziristan, said 'he was impressed by the progress on ground'," the spokesman added.

"Pakistan’s resolve to fight back the menace of terrorism is, therefore, second to none. The extra-ordinary success of operation Zarb-e-Azb is a testimony to Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to eliminate terrorism from the Pakistani soil."

At the hearing, American lawmakers and experts called Pakistan "manipulative" and claimed that it that supports terrorist elements and has been treating the US like chumps.

"They are making chumps out of us. They see us we are being so stupid. It seems like paying the mafia," said Congressman Matt Salmon, Chairman of the Asia and Pacific subcommittee of House Foreign Affairs Committee. "If I may use an undiplomatic term. We have been patsies," former Bush-era top diplomat Zalmay Khalilzad told lawmakers along with others how Pakistani leadership had "gamed" the American system for decades.

"Patsies chumps. Most Americans see out of this and yet our so called leaders do not really get it," Salmon added.

Bill Roggio, senior editor of the Long War Journal Foundation for Defence of Democracies along with Khalilzad called for cutting aid to Pakistan and put them in the list of State Sponsor of terrorism.

"At the end they are treating us like chumps. And we are more than willing to keep on handing out money to Pakistan," Roggio said.

"Pakistanis are very clever in manipulating us. I have to state that," said Khalilzad, while talking about his dealing with the Pakistani leadership when he served in various diplomatic position in the Bush era, including the US Ambassador to Afghanistan, Iraq and the Permanent Representative of the US to the UN.

They reach out to distinguished members of the Congress, they invite them for visits, they charm them, they promise once again and they extract statements from us that are "surprising" in the face of facts, he said.

Asked why the US continued with its same policy, Khalilzad said that Pakistani ability to manipulate by their actions in part had been a factor.

"My experience in dealing with Pakistan is that they will only give you something, when they know that they are going to get something," the former top American diplomat said.

Congressman Dana Rohrabacher said that the Pakistani government and Saudi Arabia created the Taliban and the Haqqani network.

Rohrabacher said the US' aid giving to Pakistan was "ridiculous".

"People of Balochistan are being slaughtered by this corrupt oppressive regime, he said.

Salmon said he personally believed that as the first step, the US should completely cut off aid to Pakistan. "That would be the right first step. If we do not any changes, we move some of the other suggestions, state sponsor terrorism, possible economic sanctions. I personally believe we have the worst policy that we have and what we are doing is rewarding these people," Salmon said.

U could have said no thank u.
Then u were scared, and now u have the balls to fight america.
Just face it, post ur nuclear test and kargil war, u had become a pariah, sanctions and has been labelled as a rogue state. Upon that the coup by musharraf had brought ur image to ground.
U saw a golden opportunity to become america's golden boy after 9/11 and u took it.
If u have so much self respect u should have said no, we will not provide u bases.
U know the threat, "we will bomb u back to stone age".
And why did bush say that?
Because he knew about ur support to talis and AQ before 9/11 and was ready to invade pakistan but gave u a chance to be on their side

You are right about Indian influence which can get you only this far. Never the less these bunch of hooligans belong to pro Indian camp. Genuine my ***.

As soon as ashraf ghani becom president, he visited pakistan, said he wants good ties with pakistan and wanted peace talks with taliban.

Karzai hated pakistan and talis. Ghani thought peace can be negotiated while abdullah abdallah was pro india. India wanted abdullah abdullah to win and pak wanted ghani to win. He didnt visit india for a year, he refused our offer for training their officers and signed an MoU with ISI for intel sharing. He was critisized for being too pro pak. I request you to verify these facts.

But pak failed to deliver on the promise of bringing the talis to the table. And there have been upsurge of attacks by talis and this turned him.
U cannot blame everyone else for your problems. U had a golden opportunity. Had u played it right, u could have won everyone's hearts and minds, but i believe greed got the better of the establishment and u wanted talis to get back in power and remove india from afghanistan.
Inida also lobbied hard for opposition to criticize ghani and both contributed to the present ghani attitude.

Ghani leadership is puppet leadership under ABCD influence of United and indi **** can't trust such incapable leadership.
Ghani Need Pakistan.
Pakistan Don't Need Ghani

How did Osama Bin Lade get into Pakistan ? He came via Afghanistan by crossing the Durrand line right

So then it only makes sense to support Pakistan in shutting down the border with Afghanistan , right ?

He came across and was guest in a mansion in Pakistan..right next to a military academy. I don't think the 'durand line' was much of a factor. I would be more concerned about why Pakistan housed him

haha slippery indian used two words "came accros" to avoid the key point about the border

He crossed the Durrand line
and came via Afghanistan ,

that is the point of entry and this would not have happened if first priority of US-installed Afghan government was to police its border instead of supporting TTP

Pakistan Is Committed to Fighting Terrorism
Don't believe the incorrect information or speculative media reports that paint Pakistan in a negative light.

Dear editor,

The views expressed in Rep. Ted Poe's op-ed ["Stop Paying Pakistan," 6/28/15] are based on incorrect information and speculative media reports that have been consistently proven false over a period of time.

Since the killing of Osama Bin Laden, it has been established beyond doubt that he was hiding in Pakistan without information or any help from the state. No evidence to the contrary has ever surfaced and the U.S. leadership involved in the specific operation at that time has clearly rejected any insinuation of Pakistan's complicity. This includes the statement by Admiral William McRaven, who supervised the operation, that there was no evidence that Pakistani government knew about the whereabouts of Bin Laden. The statement was published on the website of Department of Defense.

Consistent with this position, the White House, as late as last year, debunked once again such media accusations that are sometime published by journalists seeking public spotlight. To publicly accuse Pakistan based on an allegation that has repeatedly proven false calls into question the reasons for using this erroneous story again and again.

In reality, documents collected from the Bin Laden compound tell another story. A brochure "Jehad in Pakistan" reportedly written by Bin Laden and released by the office of the Director National Intelligence in March this year lists the reasons why Bin Laden considered Pakistan as an enemy and outlines al-Qaida's elaborate strategy to destroy Pakistan. The brochure can be viewed at the DNI's website and is yet another testimony to the fact that terrorism threatens Pakistan and the United States as a common enemy.

In addition, the article also raises another unsubstantiated claim based on sensational media reporting that a CIA station chief was poisoned by Pakistan. This claim is as fictional as it is ridiculous. The matter has never been raised by the U.S. government with Pakistan.

The op-ed also leaves an impression that Pakistan has done nothing to fight terrorism. Pakistan has helped the United States capture key operatives involved in the tragic 9/11 episode. These included mastermind Muhammad Khalid Sheikh and alleged 9/11 organizer Ramzi Binalshibh. The list is not exhaustive and includes many other senior al-Qaida leaders. During the last two years, Pakistan has also cleared a vast swath of a territory that was previously used by many militant networks, including the Haqqani Network. This operation has resulted in the killing of 3500 militants, 900 of which belonged to Lashkar-e-Islam, a group that threatened ground lines of communication for facilitating cargo for U.S. troops. Nearly 500 soldiers of Pakistan's army made the ultimate sacrifice in fighting these militants.

Being the worst victim of terrorism and having lost thousands of innocent citizens and soldiers to this menace our own resolve to defeat this threat can never be doubted.

Apparently couple of billion dollars sales is all they need to be an Indian bitch. Or it could be other away around or could be situation of you lick my *** and i lick yours situation between india and US.

Same old rant.
Not based on facts, just pure imagination and conspiracy theories.
Anyways, ghani no more needs u. It should be clear by now since he has been trying to isolate u at every forum.

And to be honest, ghani is more respected in the world than the sharif duo.
