With the ongoing tension over violation of ceasefire and continuous firing by Pakistan at the Jammu & Kashmir area, sweets were not exchanged between the border guards of both countries, during this Diwali.
Recently, for the first time Pakistan, on the occasion of Eid, did not give sweets to BSF jawans. India on the occasion of Diwali gave sweets to Pakistan but at many posts the sweets were refused by their Pakistani counterparts.
“BSF personnel offered sweets to Pakistani rangers at 14 outposts. However, Pakistan rangers at only four outposts accepted sweets,” BSF, DIG, Ravi Gandhi said.
BSF officials said tradition of exchanging sweets on the occasions and festivals to maintain cordial and harmonious relations between border guards of both countries was broken with the refusal to sweets.
Sources said that to keep the international border without tension and to maintain peace and to maintain friendly relations between BSF and Pakistan rangers along with border guards, sweets were exchanged at various levels and it had remained a tradition, which continued till now. But Pakistan for the first time, broke these traditions, which in times to come could increase the tension at the border.
However, that did not deter BSF jawans from celebrating Diwali along with their colleagues.
Hundeds of kilometers away from home, BSF jawans celebrated the festival with pomp and show. Jawans decorated the fencing adjoining the Pak border and BSF border posts with colourful lightings.
It is a beautiful sight to see border posts decorated with candles and earthen clay lamps. Jawans were happy offering prayers at the temples at borders.
Lakshmi pujan is being done at the temples situated at the border posts by jawans of all reglistions. one cannot make out the diffrerence in these jawans about their religion, whether they are muslim, hindu or chrisitian as all the celebrating this festival together with unity.
