NEW YORK: Pakistan has strongly protested against the reported move of India to raise a wall on the Line of Control (LoC) between the two nations.

Protesting against India’s move, reported Dunya News, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to United Nations (UN) Maleeha Lodhi on Thursday filed two correspondences in the UN, expressing severe reservations over India raising a wall on the LoC — a temporary ceasefire line along Jammu and Kashmir.

The wall is likely to be at least 197-km-long, 10-meter-high and 135-foot-wide.

Reiterating her country’s stance, Lodhi made it clear that “the only acceptable solution of the Kashmir conflict to Pakistan is through the UN resolutions and a plebiscite by Kashmiris”.

Quoting the UN resolutions, she said, “No party can alter the current territorial position and despite the resolution barring the move, India is going ahead with the plan to build a massive and illegal wall.”

Lodhi reportedly told Dunya News that tension in the region has risen in the past few months, while India has violated the ceasefire in multiple events of heavy firing.

She said United Nations’ Security Council president has been informed in writing on the violations from the Indian side.

India Says Pakistan's Letter to UN 'contradictory'

NEW YORK: Reacting to the allegations made by Pakistan that India was raising a 197-km-long, 10-meter-high and 135-foot-wide wall on the Line of Control (LoC), Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Vikas Swarup said that India was aware of the two letters written by Pakistan to the United Nations.

The first letter was written on September 4, which states that there was no bilateral dialogue. After that the BSF and Pak Rangers have already met. So the letter has itself contradicted itself that there is no dialogue as there has been a dialogue,” said Swarup in response to a question by ANI's Smita Prakash.

He added, “As far as the second letter is concerned, I believe, it is based on some kind of submission made by Mr. Salahuddin, whom we consider to be a global terrorist. We will respond at appropriate time."

He said there was no fresh letter from Pakistan to the UN.

On a question that Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will be raising the issue in his address to the UN, Swarup said, “The first thing is, has any action been taken by the United Nations? If there is an action taken by the UN, we will respond appropriately, and if no action is taken by the UN, it itself tells that nobody has taken the cognisance.

Double standards! Pakistan is itself constructing a huge 480km ditch along the AfPak border along the Durand Line which the Afghans have objected to. While Afghan authorities have long complained that militants are using Pakistani border areas to fuel the Taliban insurgency in their country, Kabul does not accept the Durand Line as an international boundary and strongly opposes any steps that may turn it into a permanent and more secure border.

Constructing a ditch to prevent militants from infiltrating into Pakistan is par for the course but when it comes to India doing the same to prevent infiltration from across, it's objectionable? Strange logic!

Nobody is building any wall, its impractical in that kind of terrain. Its immature on the part of Pakistan to raise the issue at the UN.

I have a problem... the wall has to be at least 20 Mtr high.... let Pakistanis teach wall climbing to Infiltrators... increase cost of Infiltration for them.

. .
either accept Bill clinton's solution of making LOC international border and both sides keep what it has already and make no fuss
or include J&K and P O K and then let India have it whole
anything else will never work out
so all the hue and cry will lead to finally only one of the 2 solution i mentioned

walls is a very smart move.. inflitration would be difficult and so K card will be useless then for Pak...

Durand Line was accepted, by both Pakistan and Afghanistan, as the official border. It is accepted as such by the global community. And above all, it is now being brought into dispute by only 1 party.

On the other hand, Kashmir is considered a disputed territory by both Pakistan and India and so too by the international community.

Not any more! Kashmir has been excluded from the list of disputes with the UN in 2010. :D

And furthermore, no one in the world cares about this so called dispute other than Pakistan! There are other more pressing things the world is thinking about, like economics, trade and global warming.

Pakistan is just flogging a dead horse!

Are you trying to say that Kashmir is not a disputed territory? Is that India's official stance?

Yes...India considers Kashmir integral part of India.

India's official stance is that the WHOLE of Kashmir including Pak Administered Kashmir and GB is an integral part of India. This has been passed by an act of Parliament way back in the 90s.

Except that if there is a wall, it will be well within Indian territory & if any Pakistanis want to apply for wall climbing lessons, they may well have the Indian army or the BSF "helping" them.
