Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan has apparently not been invited by Russia for the Eastern Economic Forum which will happen in the port city of Vladivostok, the Russian Foreign Ministry clarified in a statement.

The statement came after Pakistani media reported last week that an invite was extended by Russian President Vladimir Putin to Pakistan Prime Minister during the Shanghai cooperation organization summit in Bishkek last month.

Russian Foreign Ministry in a statement said,"We drew attention to the publications in a number of South Asian media that the Prime Minister of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan Imran Khan was invited to the events of the Eastern Economic Forum (WEF-5) in Vladivostok (September 4-6, this year) as the guest of honour...".

Explaining, "We expect that the President of Mongolia H Battulga, the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister of Malaysia M Mohammad and the Prime Minister of Japan S Abe will arrive" in Vladivostok.

Overall 3 Prime Ministers and one President will be attending the forum.

The forum meeting that began in 2015 aims to garner investment in Russia's far east region.

PM Modi will be going for the forum meeting as a special guest. Russian President Vladimir Putin had extended the invite during a telephonic conversation on January 1 and reiterated the invite during a conversation in February.

Pakistan foreign office sources on Saturday told the media there that Khan will join the EEF on the invitation of Russian President Vladimir Putin. Pakistan media, quoting these sources, claimed that invitation was extended by Putin during the recently-held Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit, which both the leaders had attended.

But neither Putin in his remarks at Kremlin last week nor the organisers of the forum have made any reference on the Pakistan PM with regard to the EEF.

“Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi and the Prime Minister of Japan Shinzo Abe were invited to participate in the 5th Eastern Economic Forum, which is to take place in Vladivostok on 4–6 September,” said Putin at Kremlin last week.

Putin’s advisor Anton Kobyakov and Indian envoy to Moscow Bala Venkatesh Varma met in Moscow on Monday to discuss preparations for the EEF.

“Relations between Russia and India cover all areas of cooperation, including political dialogue, security, trade, economic and military-technical ties, energy, scientific, cultural and humanitarian exchanges, and foreign policy engagement,” said Kobyakov during his meeting on Monday. “Narendra Modi will be the guest of honour at the EEF 2019, and India will become the guest country of the forum.”

ET has learnt that Modi commissioned several business missions to the Far East and five chief ministers for the Forum.

In the build up to Modi’s Vladivostok visit and the 20th edition of the annual summit also be held in the city, both sides are holding Strategic Economic Dialogue in Delhi on Tuesday and Wednesday. Besides, Russian economic development minister Maxim Oreshkin will visit India next month and a visit is planned for Russian space agency head and former deputy Dmrity Rogozin, while the Indian Air Force chief is currently visiting Russia.

Are these the same diplomatic sources that also said that no headcount was done on F16 on Pakistan? Or perhaps from a press conference that doesn't even exist...

We will wait for the time of our choice insha'Allah to give an appropriate response to this.
