Pakistan plans oil imports from Russia

.
Problem with US is that China don't want its currency to appreciate like dollar.

If the Yuan becomes a currency used for International trade, and it frequently has to be exchanged for other currencies, the Chinese will lose control over the exchange rate.

.
Russia, China, Iran and Pakistan are all involved in this plan.

Russian & Iranian Oil & Gas would be brought to Pakistan using Chinese Yuan as the currency.

This is a game changer for Pakistan after the success of CPEC.

Should bring it in via , Russia - Iran - Pakistan route , or Russia - Afghanistan - Pakistan with understanding any attack on Russian oil will be a attack on Russian /Pakistani interest

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan is working on a plan now to sign a government-to-government oil import agreement with energy-rich Russia in a move that will lessen Pakistan’s excessive reliance on Middle Eastern countries.

At present, Pakistan is importing oil from the Gulf Arab states including the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Kuwait and Saudi Arabia. For meeting gas needs, it is purchasing the commodity from another Gulf country, Qatar.

According to sources, the proposal for oil import from Russia was discussed in ministerial-level dialogue between Pakistan and Russia in Moscow.

Pakistani and Russian representatives noted the interest of Rosneft Oil Company of Russia and Pakistani companies in the trade of crude oil, oil products and liquefied natural gas (LNG). In that regard, due diligence may be conducted and relevant arrangements including an inter-governmental agreement may be considered.

The shipping charges would be less the oil will come from Iran or China. Russia is the supplier for Irani oil. Russia has a pipeline in China of oil.

The Iranian perspective makes a lot more sense. Also the central states.

Good to diversify your sources.

Good not to be too dependent on the gulf countries.

Even though the Gulf countries are our allies.

So the Gulf countries do not have so much leverage over Pakistan.

Remember Pakistan first!

The key point that you may be missing is that currently Pakistan buys oil from GCC using US dollars while Pakistan would now be buying Oil & Gas from Russia/Iran/China using Chinese Yuan.

I don't think we'll be able to import any significant quantity from Russia. A good move though. Transactions in Rupee/Ruble will be icing on the cake, if we can manage that.
