ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Science and Technology, Chaudhry Fawad Hussain on Tuesday disclosed that his ministry would soon launch an animation and video games certification programme in a bid to enter the $90 billion gaming industry.

“This programme will not only serve the purpose of gaming for the youth but prove as a game-changer for the young people”, the federal minister said in a tweet.

“If you are not interested in reading and are interested in video games on the phone, be prepared the Ministry of Science and Technology is bringing a special program of video games programming so that we can become a part of this $90 billion industry,” he wrote.

The minister categorically stated that the objective of launching the programme was to become to penetrate into the $90 billion gaming industry.

It may be mentioned here that the minister, earlier last month, had announced to launch the country’s first over-the-top (OTT) TV Pakistan version of Netflix.

great initiative but i strongly disagree with the statement "if you don't like studying and like to spend time on mobile playing games than be happy ministry of IT is bringing" thats tend to encourage people who are not studying rather than pushing them to study and enter into this new venture, maybe it's just me?

Pakistan has a huge and promising gaming industry. Unfortunately, like most positive developments in Pakistan, people rarely hear about it because the media rather churn out and the public rather hear what Maryam Nawaz Sharif has to say.

Last year, Epic Games acquired Quixel which is one of the most promising gaming startups in the world.

Made in Pakistan: Your next favorite mobile game
Along with his brother Ammar, Saad founded Caramel Tech Studios in 2011 after a stint working at a mobile gaming startup. The studio has since helped code the global hit “Fruit Ninja,” which has been downloaded more than a billion times, for an Australian developer. Caramel Tech’s open spaces, games consoles and pool table are cultural imports from the offices of California’s tech giants.

I think programming and animation work is one of those things where you dont really need a degree or academic qualification, since its entirely skill based and can be proven with a portfolio. Some of the biggest names in the tech world all dropped out of their schools to build their companies.

That being said for every 1 success story there must be 99 failures so having qualifications to fall back on is always better.
