BRUSSELS/WASHINGTON: US and NATO in a bid to punish Pakistan for blocking NATO supply route have decided against inviting Pakistan to the forthcoming NATO summit in Chicago.

According to reports, Pakistan’s chances of attending the forthcoming NATO summit in Chicago, on May 20 and 21, have died down following a deadlock in Pak-US relations.

Both countries have adopted tough positions on their respective demands and a resolution in the immediate future appears highly improbable.

NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen said Friday that Pakistan had not been invited to the upcoming Chicago summit.

Speaking to reporters, Rasmussen asked Pakistan to restore the NATO supply route.

“Our supply should be unblocked immediately,” Rasmussen said in reply to a question.

The May 20-21 summit will be the biggest NATO summit in history, with more than 60 countries and organizations represented.

And these people call themselves our allies?

NATO means north Atlantic treaty!.. what does Pakistan, got to do with that and what does NATO got to do with any thing beyond north Atlantic?

This may explain it to you:

Excerpt from: NATO - Official text: The North Atlantic Treaty, 04-Apr.-1949

Article 5

The Parties agree that an armed attack against one or more of them in Europe or North America shall be considered an attack against them all and consequently they agree that, if such an armed attack occurs, each of them, in exercise of the right of individual or collective self-defence recognised by Article 51 of the Charter of the United Nations, will assist the Party or Parties so attacked by taking forthwith, individually and in concert with the other Parties, such action as it deems necessary, including the use of armed force, to restore and maintain the security of the North Atlantic area.

Any such armed attack and all measures taken as a result thereof shall immediately be reported to the Security Council. Such measures shall be terminated when the Security Council has taken the measures necessary to restore and maintain international peace and security .

USA was attacked on 9/11 and NATO went after the perpetrators.

Nobody in Pakistan is losing any sleep over not being invited to a NATO meeting in Chicago. NATO is a SPENT FORCE in Afghanistan and it is looking for a face saving way out of this Quagmire. France and United Kingdom have already declared departure in 2013, long before the US deadline of 2014. These guys are in no mood to spend any time in this neighborhood as their economies are going Bankrupt ( Afghanistan has a reputation of being the graveyard of Superpowers ). I think Afghanistan has some Divine help as every country that comes in is destroyed Economically.

Ah yes, that explains the divine "bounties" bestowed on the Afghan people since 1979 non-stop.

Tou na ghabra iss baad e Mukhalif aaqab
Yeh toe chalti hai tujhe uuncha uraney kay liye

Huh?

The first verse is actually:

"Tundii-e-bad-e-mukhaalif sey nah ghabra ae uqaab"

but try telling that to the poor Afghans while sitting in the Big Apple yourself.

The Afghans who have any brains know that already. Maybe it is time for you to learn some basic truths of life.

Lesson number one young man:

When God wants you to change your life, he gives you adversity. That was the whole idea behind Iqbal's Poetry.

As we say in the US " we all have our Cross to bear ". Afghans have their's and we have ours.

Apparently 30 years of adversity is not enough to change Afghan lives.

(And Iqbal's poetry is much more than what you quoted wrongly.)

That is true. Iqbal talks about such things as ISSAT, NAMOOS AND GHAYRAT.

Ofcourse you would know precious little about these traits.

Let me leave you with another shaer by Iqbal.

Pani pani kar gayee mujh ko Qalandar ki yeh baat
Tou jhuka jub ghair kay aagay na tun tera na mun

There is no meaningful summit on Afghanistan without Pakistan. Their loss.

The loss is on both sides, but you are correct: the summit would have been more meaningful if Pakistan were participating.

Precisely, Bilal.

The US has few options in Afghanistan as it tries to CUT AND RUN in 2014.

The US has tried to negotiate directly with Taliban and has zero results. The reason is that US uses bullying tactics in negotiation and that technique backfires with Taliban. The US is not geared to fight a War of Attrition and Taliban are the Masters of Wars of Attrition. They just use the Geography/Topography to their advantage and wear out the enemies will and resources. The US has lost the will to fight in Afghanistan and and they are economically going bankrupt.
