New Delhi: Pakistan and India have steadily increased their nuclear arsenal from 60-80 and 70-90 warheads in 2010, to 110-120 and 90-110 respectively by 2014, a new report by the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) said on Monday.

China has more than double that number with 250 warheads. The US and Russia, of course, are in a different league altogether with 7,000-8,000 warheads each, together possessing 93% of all nuclear weapons.

The data compiled by the SIPRI shows that at the start of 2014, the nine nuclear armed states, namely United States, Russia, United Kingdom, France, China, India, Pakistan, Israel and North Korea together possessed approximately 16 300, nuclear warheads, while the number of active/deployed nuclear weapons was around 4000.

Russia, US still lead world nuclear arsenals

The report further states that despite the reduction in the number of nuclear weapons the nuclear armed states are apparently not willing to completely dismantle their nuclear arsenals, instead have been modernising their delivery systems.

It further claims that all five legally recognised nuclear weapon states—China, France, Russia, UK and USA—are either deploying new nuclear weapon delivery systems or have announced programmes to do so.

But rather than its actual stockpile of warheads as compared to Pakistan and China, the Indian defence establishment remains more worried about its delivery systems.

The Indian armed forces still do not have SLBMs (submarine-launched ballistic missiles) and ICBMs (inter-continental ballistic missiles) in their arsenal, both of which are needed for credible deterrence against its two neighbours.

India may have conducted two successful tests of its first ICBM, the over 5,000-km Agni-V, over the last couple of years but it will take at least three years for the missile to become fully-operational. Similarly, the 750-km K-15 SLBM is yet to be tested from India's first indigenous nuclear-powered submarine INS Arihant, which is slated to head for extensive "sea trials" only later this year.

The report further claims that there is an emerging consensus in the expert community that North Korea has produced a small number of nuclear weapons, as distinct from rudimentary nuclear explosive devices.

A longer range SLBM, the over 2,000-km K-4, was also tested for the first-time from a submersible pontoon in March.

Apart from the shorter-range Prithvi missiles, India currently has the Agni-I (700-km), Agni-II (2,000-km) and Agni-III (3,000-km) missiles under its Strategic Forces Command.

. . . .
That's a baloney! hindustan is ahead in stockpiles of nuclear weapons their Economy is 3 times that of Pakistan they can afford they have more Nuclear Reactors and the ingredients to produce.

Feel good would do nothing it is time Pakistan only focuses Economy regardless of what people might think China and hindustan would have even better relations in time and Pakistani siasatdan would turn Pakistan into N. Korea contrary to the popular belief that Army is acting like N. Korea NO it is musical chair politics and every Gov in power that has alienate our businessmen/industrialist community every year Pakistan goes back 5 years backward.

When do we plan on moving ahead of India in education, economy, social peace and scientific fields?
Spot on! I don't know why guys get orgasms when portraying the size and quantity of dicks that needless to say will never ever be used!

When will we start talking about whose is better in education, poverty alleviation, health, economy, etc? The size of nuclear dicks don't matter anymore. It's just a deterrent. Producing a couple of nukes or a million means squat!

Apart from the Pakistans obsession with bombs as pointed out by other posters, these bomb numbers are misleading when analyzed a bit deeper.

Pakistans weapons are fissile HEU based, much smaller in yield to Indias primarily Plutonium based fusion devices.

Pakistans 100 devices may well be less than half of Indias devices in yield.

NEW DELHI: Pakistan's nuclear arsenal continues to surge ahead with 100-120 warheads as compared to India's 90-110. China has more than double that number with 250 warheads. The US and Russia, of course, are in a different league altogether with 7,000-8,000 warheads each, together possessing 93% of all nuclear weapons.

This is the latest assessment of the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute which holds that all the nine nuclear-armed countries continue to "modernize" their nuclear arsenals and delivery systems like long-range missiles.

With the US and Russia slowly reducing their huge inventories under the new strategic arms reduction treaty of 2011, the overall number of nuclear weapons continues to decline. But there are still 16,300 nuclear weapons around the globe, of which around 4,000 are "operational", said SIPRI.

"China, India and Pakistan are the only nuclear weapon states that are expanding their nuclear arsenals, while Israel appears to be waiting to see how the situation in Iran develops," it added.

"We have a declared no-first use (NFU) nuclear policy, which requires effective and survivable second-strike capabilities for massive retaliation in case of a first strike. This can only come through nuclear-powered submarines armed with SLBMs, hidden deep underwater for extended periods of time," said an official.

Despite all its covert help from China and North Korea in the nuclear and missile arenas, Pakistan also does not have ICBMs and SLBMs as of now. But it does not have to contend with China, which has missiles that can hit any Indian city. Its road-mobile DF-31A missile has a range of 11,200-km, while its new JL-2 SLBM has a reach of 7,400-km.

"India and Pakistan continue to develop new systems capable of delivering nuclear weapons and are expanding their capacities to produce fissile material for military purposes," said the SIPRI report.

"All the five legally recognised nuclear weapon states, China, France, Russia, the UK and the US, are either deploying new nuclear weapon delivery systems or have announced programmes to do so," it added. The other four, India, Pakistan, Israel and North Korea, are not signatories to the nuclear non-proliferation treaty.

India is ahead of all countries in conventional arms import. It spends massive in defense sector irrespective of fragile economy and high poverty ratio. In comparison to India, Pakistan spends minimum in defense sector due to weak economy.

What do you want me to write that indian economy is smaller than Bangladesh? Or you want me to write indian economy is 5 times bigger than; so be it my point is it is big enough to afford and produce more Plutonium based Nukes.
