Pakistan may study other fighter options as US asks Pakistan to make full payment for F-16 purchase

Our greatest achievement today would be to move away from US influence.

Easier said than done due to US-Pakistani trade links, ties stemming from the cold war and the big Pakistani community living in the USA. I believe USA is the 2nd biggest trade partner of Pakistan if I am not mistaken? You have to have some sort of relationship with the world's most powerful country but on what level is the key question only Pakistanis answer.

Remember also behind all these IMF, World Bank, NSG etc is only uncle sam that can pull the real strings

Make peace with India.....You won't need anything to buy (weapons)......nor will require the Army to maintain!!
Why not. Who does not want Peace? So as a big brother how about India takes the initiative and hands us over the Kashmir. We will remove all our Army Units away from LOC unilaterally as a response.

.
Fantastic news...

Now use money wisely and buy some thing non american with no strings attached

We are fighters nation we have no need of peace. We want to busy in war 12 months of the year. If Pakistan and India become friends it will means recycle of time the age before 1947 united India. F16 or weapon is not the issue these F16 will come definitely to Pakistan soon or later.

Indeed it will, else Americans are well aware of the fact that they will loose any leverage they may have on Pakistan... the icing on the cake is that concerned for American taxpayers, our insecure neighbour is spending it's own taxpayers millions on lobbying.....while our bidding is being done scot free by none other than the VP of Lockheed.....that's what you call having your cake and enjoying it. :D

If only having strong lobby in US were a bad thing, Israel wouldn't have been a nation today.

Ok lets analyze cost vs benefits of lobbying.

Buying these 8 F-16 costs $700 million.

Lobbying against a $700 million deal, costs a couple of million dollars to various senators in key positions.

If Pakistan successfully buys these 8 F-16s , India will have to procure 8 equivalent or better fighters.
8 Rafales cost $ 1.9 Billion.

So if India prevents PAF from buying these aircrafts, that is $1.9 Billion saved by spending just couple of million.

However if Pakistan still agrees to pay the full price for these aircrafts, then India has forced Pakistan to spend an extra $430 million for same 8 F-16s by investing just a couple of million against it.

Not a bad deal , either ways.

.
Thank U Uncle Sam, Thank U India. Plz lobby more so US shud put a permanent ban on sale of every new tech to us so we could see and explore other horizons too. But whenever we take any such step Uncle Sam suddenly releases some stuck procurement of ours as was the case with AH-1Zs.
You are right bro

Besides Trade with US american interest lies with PAK , as for Afghanistan because indian thinks they are so smart in afghanistan by using northern allies , but still situation worse & worse and will remain worse because of afghan public support is not with the northern allies

and the second thing pakistan is the bigger source of NATO supply line. i think we do have also some interest for our security.

If Indians have wasted billions for a deal worth millions then I salute the intelligence of Indian Lobbyists

Billion$ Spent = Pakistan got F-16
Paskistan Response : Dehati Aurat, wasted billions, salute the intelligence of Indian Lobbyists ...........blah blah

I agree with the jist of your post about the legitimacy in lobbying execpet this part:

If Pakistan successfully buys these 8 F-16s , India will have to procure 8 equivalent or better fighters.

So if India prevents PAF from buying these aircrafts, that is $1.9 Billion saved by spending just couple of million.

Since when has the IAF procured jets on a 1-1 basis of the PAF? The PAF buys 8 the IAF will induct 8? This is not how these things work. The IAF has their own sanctioned strength (currently 42 SQNs) and are working to acheive this figure by 2025 regardless of what the PAF do.

Looks good on paper but far from any reality and non practical.
The Rafale for example is a four year old story extending over a decade....the 8 F-16 have ben in the headlines for about six months. You have already shot your self in the foot by reducing the order to a one third and doubling the costs.
PAF is working to it's own plan and doctrine and not according to what India does, we hope you keep spending millions in your futile efforts and then your defence minister issues a broken heart statement. We are also content that our revamp effort is running smoothly with the JF-17 while you continue to pour millions if not billions in a domestic project.
Maybe you should spend the millions wasted on lobbying on your SU-30 fleet which is said to be only some 60% operational.

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan will acquire jets from elsewhere if the United States (US) does not arrange funding for the sale, Sartaj Aziz, the prime minister's adviser on foreign affairs, cautioned the US as both countries lock horns over the purchase of the fighter jets.

Pakistan had earlier reached an understanding with the US for buying eight F-16 planes. Under the deal, Pakistan was required to pay about $270m from its national funds. The US was supposed to provide the rest from its Foreign Military Financing (FMF) fund.

But at a congressional hearing, US lawmakers last Wednesday made it clear that they would not allow the Obama administration to use US funds for the deal.

Last Friday, a State Department official told Dawn that Congress had placed a hold on the deal, forbidding the administration from using US funds for enabling Pakistan to buy the planes.

And on Monday afternoon, the department confirmed that Pakistan will have to use its own funds if it wants the planes.

The latest announcement practically kills the deal as Pakistan may find it difficult to buy the planes at two and a half times more than the agreed price.

Aziz said Pakistan valued the F-16s for their effectiveness, but said that they could be replaced by JF-17 Thunder jets in its anti-terrorism campaign.

The adviser also expressed concern over India's growing military power and said if it isn't checked, Pakistan will be "forced to increase its strategic power" too.

"The international community should avoid steps which may disturb the strategic balance in South Asia", Aziz warned.

Aziz reiterated the government's resistance towards handing Dr Shakeel Afridi over to American authorities.

"We have rejected American pressure on Pakistan regarding Afridi, who helped the US trace Osama bin Laden. For the US he is a hero but for Pakistan he is a criminal," he stated.

Afridi's case is under review by a tribunal, and he is also suspected of links with terrorist organisations, Aziz added.

The adviser also confirmed that an Afghan Taliban delegation from Doha is in Islamabad for explanatory contacts and such contacts are maintained by all members of the Quadrilateral Coordination Group which consists of the US, China, Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Last week, the Afghan Taliban's spokesperson in Doha formally confirmed that a delegation from their political office in Qatar was visiting Pakistan and promised “fruitful results”, but rejected the impression that the group was there to discuss participation in peace talks with Kabul.

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan will acquire jets from elsewhere if the United States (US) does not arrange funding for a previously agreed upon F-16 fighter jet sale, Sartaj Aziz, the prime minister's adviser on foreign affairs, cautioned the US as both countries lock horns over the purchase of the jets.

"If funding is arranged, Pakistan will get the F-16s, otherwise we will opt for jets from some other place," Aziz said, without clarifying which jets he was referring to and where they would be bought from.

Aziz elaborated the US administration has given its consent for the sale of F-16s, and the only hurdle is finances.

The US gives Pakistan $265 million as part of foreign military assistance, in previous years it was $300 million. The amount received is split between the three branches of the armed forces. Pakistan Air Force's (PAF) share is $80 million, which they had allocated for the last three years to buy the jets, added Aziz.

"The funding we received was part of normal military funding received from US, and not specifically meant for the purchase of F-16s. The US has informed us that we can use the funds for purchase of other military equipment and items, but not F-16s."
