I have heard this story form another member regarding the Al Khalid deal but the Saudi deal was cancelled due to objections raised by the Saudis following an assessment. As someone said they too are under pressure from various sources other thantheir own vested interests. For the Saudis it is not only a case of buying arms but also buying influence and other stuff. However the marketing team could certainly do better. My 2 paisas wrth. One of the tank members offered a different story. Here is an excerpt from his PM
why would the saudis want to buy the AL-khalid when they already operate the M1A1 a more superior system. even if they were offered as a TOT it wouldn't be worth it, selling the JF-17 to them is also a bullshit idea, why sell an inferior weapon when you operate a fleet consisting of more advanced more proven aircraft. if you compare the JF-17 in its current form to modern aircraft its a very basic plane and doesn't offer much.I have heard this story form another member regarding the Al Khalid deal but the Saudi deal was cancelled due to objections raised by the Saudis following an assessment. We need a our own NATO !
I would agree with you that the Saudis neither lack sellers nor money. The Al Khalid tanks were for a contingent of Pak Army that was due to be stationed in Saudia. The Saudis looked at the tank and apart from a few other objections one of the main ones was that the tank did not have an AC. To cut a long story short they did not buy the tank as the whole idea was scuttled by the stationing of the US forces.I believe that when arms are battle tested they generate buyers, when the IAF migs got shot down by anzas maylasia and a couple of other countries wanted to buy them and they bought them in substantial numbers, when the baktar shikan scored hits on the Serbian T-72 countries purchased it, if pakistan deployed self produced weapons like UAVs, tanks in the northern areas and they are effective countries would wish to buy these systems.
