Pakistan keen to develop good relations with India on equal footing: PM

ISLAMABAD:
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said on Wednesday Pakistan is keen to develop good relations with India on the basis of sovereign equality.

“Pakistan is keen to develop good relations with India on the basis of sovereign equality as well as mutual respect and interest,” Nawaz said.

The statement came during the premier’s meeting with Pakistan High Commissioner to India Abdul Basit at the PM House in Islamabad. Basit briefed the prime minister on the state of Pakistan, India relations with particular reference to latest developments.

Just yesterday, the premier said that Pakistan’s enemy wants to sabotage the multibillion-dollar China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project.

“A neighbouring country has already voiced its reservations,” Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif told an all-party conference (APC) at the Governor House in Quetta. By ‘a neighbouring country’ the premier meant India which has long been accused by Pakistani civil and military leaders of fomenting terrorism in Balochistan and elsewhere in the country as part of its attempts to destabilise Pakistan. Recent statement by Indian cabinet ministers that New Delhi must ‘neutralise terror with terror’ lent credence to such accusations.

The APC adopted a declaration which says anti-state elements were involved in terrorist attacks in Balochistan at the behest of ‘foreign powers’. “The enemy country is trying to destabilise Pakistan by orchestrating attacks like the killing of Pashtuns in Mastung and of Ismaili community members in Karachi,” the prime minister said.

Islamabad believes India’s top spy agency, the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW), is out to perpetrate terrorism in Pakistan by arming and bankrolling terrorists as New Delhi wants to undermine the ambitious CPEC project which, Islamabad says, will be economic ‘game changer’ for the region. India doesn’t hide its opposition to the multibillion-dollar project as its foreign minister Sushma Swaraj said on Monday that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has conveyed to Beijing that the CPEC is ‘unacceptable’ to New Delhi.

Referring to the Mastung massacre, Premier Nawaz said the enemy’s objective was to fuel hatred between two brotherly ethnic communities in Balochistan in an attempt to impede Pakistan’s march on the road to economic progress. “The sickening violence [in Mastung] was condemnable, but government and opposition leaders foiled the nefarious designs of the enemy by controlling the situation,” he added.

Wednesday’s meeting comes in the background of constant verbal exchange between the two countries with India’s external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj saying dialogue between India and Pakistan will only be held under the condition that Pakistan takes action against terrorists like Lakhvi and others for carrying out terror acts in India.

Further, just yesterday the prime minister’s senior aide, Sartaj Aziz, said India’s requests for Pakistan to create an environment free of violence as ‘ironic.’

“When India keeps violating ceasefire at the Line of Control and the Working Boundary, indulges in worst human rights violations against helpless Kashmiris in Indian occupied Kashmir, and undertakes subversive activities in Pakistan, then asking Pakistan to create an environment free of violence only sounds ironic,” Aziz said.

Responding to India’s external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj’s statement that dialogue between India and Pakistan will only be held under the condition that Pakistan takes action against terrorists like Lakhvi and others for carrying out terror acts in India, Aziz said, “As regards the Mumbai trial, it is proceeding in the court of law.”

looks like your PM is going against the grain of what Pakistanis stand for ? ;)
At least he has the honor and shame not to constantly bitch about foreign country investing in your country.

@Horus Damn what happens to your Ghaznavid ideology now.... looks like your PM is going against the grain of what Pakistanis stand for ? ;)
There is always a friendly gesture and a peace deal....If that is broken then....Bang Bang

India current policy is most practical. There is absolutely no way we can have good relationship. It is just impossible in near future because what Pakistan wants from us is something we are not willing to give. So it is best to forget it and have minimum relationship which can be done.

Nobody gives a damn about who invests what in your country. If however they do it in the area of Kashmir which Pakistan controls, then objections will follow. Nothing new here. Pakistan objects to any foreign investment in the Indian side of Kashmir & India does the same in the Pakistani side.

Add to this, the Chinese protests about India's presence in the SC sea and you quickly understand the diplomatic point. Nobody expects China to agree to Indian protests but China's actions in the face of India's objections gives India the chance to say the same when china objects to Indian projects with Vietnam.

...... because what Pakistan wants from us is something we are not willing to give.

Spot on. That is something that needs to be understood by everybody.

Aint happening in near future I guess. Both sides have to settle for status quo for that to happen.

Given the ideological stance of Pakistan, there is no point in investing any meaningful diplomatic capital in Pakistan... It's best for both countries to go their own way for the next two three decades, stop engagement.

This bastard will never change no matter what.

There is no point in even trying to have good relations with Pakistan, ultimately their national psyche is damaged and consequently they will seek to spread terrorism everywhere.

Are you the slight bit damaged in your head? I know Pakistanis have trouble understanding legalese.

Azad Kashmir is disputed area, any foreign investment there will be objected to. That's how it works.

We should sabotage as GB is Indian

And this is the mind set that is prevalent throughout the country it seems. Mr. Sharif you are living in a wonderland if you expect Indians to start behaving in a civilized manner, their inferiority complex forces them to behave like complete scoundrels and try to bully anyone they can. This is a mindset that does not accept anyone as equal to them, even among themselves they don't accept each other to be equal. They will do everything within their power to take Pakistan down and keep us there. Let them bark as much as they can, only thing we should focus on is returning the favor which is long due since 71. Let them huff and puff, for all the chest thumping and yodeling, they are nothing but bunch of insecure turds.

History had shown that Mehmood Ghaznavi attacked Soomnat due to the reason people of the area where complaining against the pandits who were hiding gold in those statues. Later on whole story of Ghaznai was just created to show that Mehmood Ghaznavi was some sort of robber.

On the other hand, both countries should come forward and abstain from arm race.

Indians have this mindset because they understand the Pakistani mindset - that of a snake.

There is no point in trying to have good relations because Pakistan will just use that to further its Islamo terrorist goals in the region. The inferiority complex of Pakistanis forces them to keep biting everyone else to prove they are equal to the others. There will be more Pakistanis just waiting to enter Mumbai and try and slaughter people.

There is no need for even trying to have good relations with a people and country like Pakistan.

India is being egged on by US to become obnoxious towards Pakistan. If they wanted to make peace now they cannot as the US relationship is based on India disrupting Pak-China strategic aims even if it means the region not being able to progress in terms of peace and economics. Very selfish move.

This is one of the biggest blunders in Indian history as they are starting to piss off Pakistan and China. It will all come full circle when the games start on India and they will my Indian friends. Get ready for a lot of pain.

A Pakistani trying to teach India foreign policy ?
Whats next, Afghanistan will try to teach us gun control laws?
Somalia will try to teach us naval security?

India and the region - South Asian region (minus Pakistan and Afghanistan) is progressing quite rapidly.

All of our economies - India, BD, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Nepal and Myanmar are posting high growth rates.

We are all signing trade agreements which are interconnecting our economies. We are making a common electricity grid between India, Nepal, Bangladesh and Bhutan. We are signing transport agreements and visa free agreements between each other.

Our governments are investing in each others countries. Bangladesh is investing in power plants in India, Indian companies are setting up factories in Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.

There is a trilateral corridor being built between India, Bangladesh and Myanmar all the way to Thailand, financed by ADB and JICA.

I don't know what you are talking about, but please don't teach us economics or regional prosperity. We know we have to live here and are making our lives better. None of us here are happy to live or die in the name of arab deserts like Pakistan & Pakistanis.

We are all going towards bettering our region - minus Pakistan ofcourse.
