Pakistan Is Losing Too Many Soldiers In Counter Terrorism Operations

Who are the alternatives?

Agree, Musharraf did the right thing killing Akbar Bugti.

No, TTP was also hitting FC. But, at one point we were crossing tolls of over 100 FC for the first half of 2021. We send them in cheap pickup trucks to a place of hell.

Taliban did arrest a large amount of BLA and ISISK people in Helmand.

In an ideal world the state i.e. the government is always the best option to deal with all issues. In Pakistan this just hasn't worked. Corrupt regimes, vested interests, incompetence... We all know the reasons. The best option right now remains the COAS. Like I said, I am far from satisfied, but it is the best option available.

Bajwa seeks productive relations with the US and even he knows that this is impossible. When you already know something you don't make the mistake of achieving the unachievable.

Bajwa has turned minions into monsters by his inactivity and TLP is one such example.

On the side note, Bajwa even doesn't visit insurgency infested areas such as rural balochistan or Waziristan. He is seen only on LOC or army training exercise, POF etc. All other times, he is meeting indoors.

We lost 5 yesterday. TTP continues to attack. Failed negotiations with both Talibans and United states. United states gives nothing. no money, no weapons and Taliban made us fool. This is what happens when you ask nothing, not even a favor. Whoever negotiated deal with both United states and Talibans, has failed. Now what? Enemies all over the world specially united states and TTP attack everyday! Failed strategies, useless negotiations. We got Nothing.
Many young officers are already martyred. very sad state of affairs!

Make no mistake. Bajwa has made blunders. In fact, blunders which are unforgivable in my opinion. Nevertheless, if we have to choose between alternatives, he still come on top easily.

If he is the best we have as you said then we should do a collective Fatiha for Pakistani soldiers and the whole institution of army

At this point anyone is better than Bajwa. He should respectfully resign if he is incapable of stopping such bloodbaths.

This is a daily occurence at this point. Our general population has become numb to this news. It is only us here that feel such pain everyday of our martyrs.

1 Pakistan lifes are cheap, why waste money on tech and better systems which can improve the survivability of younger soldiers when that money can be used for generals and his families comfort.
2 Pakistan has 200 Million people so they have thousands upon thousands who can replace the dead at very cheap rate. UNTIL Pakistan economy dont provide them another option so middle class and lower class will always be attracted to shine of Fouji life.
3 Why hit enemies source points as that will limit your enemies ability to harm the population and lower rank grunts that will affect your importance and lower your funding, population will ask questions when you interfere in non military related matters.

Simple fact is this Elite of Pakistan, Politicians and Top brass do not care what happens you or your family.
Answer me one simple question how many Politicians and General lost own children to this war.

Only People who are lossing own blood know the real cost of this war.
Imagine lossing your mother, father, wifi , brother sister , children because of incompetency of rulers.
In all honesty Pakistani people still not waking up Wallah deserve these leaders.
Its morally corrupt dead nation. Who will soon be last in history.

Ina lila for the those who last so much already and the sacrifice of our forefathers has wasted for nothing.

A very important article that spells out clearly what everyone here is thinking. There have been major losses in Baluchistan from the FC and nothing has changed much. Yes many of them have died, but that's beside their point. They are ragtag terrorist vermin and should take higher losses. Professionals learn and don't repeat the same mistakes.
We now also have a resurgent TTP as well.

"Pakistan has known and recorded the evolving situation for nearly two years now: disparate TTP groups reorganising and banding together; four Baloch terrorist organisations coming together to mount coordinated attacks; Islamic State-Khorasan cadres targeting security forces and Shia Pakistanis".

Time is of the essence.

When Professionals prioritize a defensive posture to save their skin and maximize their own time in power with a pathetic (and failing) stability policy instead of aggression, this is what you get.

Well written. Accountability is important and the briefings or music videos don’t do justice. However, those who might be in the position to take accountability are themselves absolutely incapable of understanding the context or uninterested either by incompetence or by focusing on corruption . Such is the tragedy of Pakistans.

Accountability for a COAS --- has it ever happened?

Ejaz Haider presents some valid points about Troops not exactly keeping up with past experiences. If we analyze some terrorist propaganda videos from last few months, one thing is very clear that the troops (mostly FC Balochistan) are ill-prepared to deal with an ambush.

BLA has been mounting multiple directional ambushes on FC vehicles and they are very very successful, they even run over check-posts and observation posts with relative ease. First, the posts are not properly manned and the security of the posts is very poor (that video of BLA terrorists jumping the small walls of the post is an evidence).

Secondly, the ambushes, FC, and to some extent our regular troops still don't get one military rule of dealing with the ambushes: YOU BLOODY DRIVE THROUGH IT, YOU NEVER STOP IN AN AMBUSH!

I've watched numerous videos where our vehicles are stopped and then the poor guys are trying to ascertain where the fire is coming from and then they are hit one after the other.

One video where our regular troops were engaged in an ambush in Orakzai a few weeks ago shows how effective it is to just drive through the ambush and run away from the range of fire, a couple of soldiers embraced shahadat in that as well, but because their vehicle fell into the river, other 5 vehicles at least drove through the ambush and had less casualties.

So, it's not just about the technology, drones and MRAPs, it's about tactics too. We are losing so many good men because someone in-charge is not looking into the problem. I mean, we at PDF have pointed out what we see in these videos time and again.

Tactics are important --- but even the best tactics and gear without a sound strategy are useless. It's like missing the forest for the trees. The problem is that these movements have foreign support and they cannot survive it. Yet we are focused on their foot soldiers and field-level commanders while a cloning factory is producing more beyond our borders. TILL YOU RAISE THE COST FOR THE SUPPORTERS OF TERRORISM AGAINST PAKISTAN, there is no hope. Keep losing your men while top generals play politics.

Wasn't like that in Raheel Sharif times.
Soldiers morale is down and political insults by Patwaris taking its toll.
Soldiers should rather save their lives than dying for a thankless nation, who thinks that paying them wages is equal to buying their lives.

Politicians can say what they want --- soldiers don't give a f*** if their COAS is an inspiring man. This is not the case currently.

General bajwa has hurt institution of Pakistan army in more ways than one

Ejaz Haider has noticed that and has written an article about that

Others would realize it too

Have to blame the dimwit who gave him an extension just as much. These are institution and country-destroying moves. The damage is so deep that it is hard to quantify. It is not just about tactics or losses (while they are so painful, yet never-ending) --- but about strategic culture and doctrine. We are following a failed policy that no amount of kit, armor, tactics, etc., can fix. The policy itself must change. What a weak, cowardly setup we currently have in both epicenters of power.

Very good points.

Please add another. In Pakistan, the beautiful religion of Islam has become disfigured into a sort of death cult which is taken to its extreme --- people are so willing to die under the martyrdom principle, and their seniors willing to let them die, that the incentive to kill the other f***er first is hardly there. I have no doubt that those who die fighting terrorists or an invasion, etc., have a special place in the afterlife --- after all, their sacrifice their life to keep others safe --- but we need to balance this with the value in killing the other guy first!!!
