ANKARA, Turkey, Dec. 11 (UPI) -- Turkish Aerospace Industries has signed an agreement with a joint venture between Rolls-Royce and Honeywell to procure engines for light utility helicopters.

Under the agreement, the Light Helicopter Turbine Engine Company, in which Honeywell and Rolls-Royce each have a 50 percent stake, will supply turboshaft engines for the Turkish light utility helicopter program. The helicopters will be used for both military and civilian purposes, according to Defense News.

"LHTEC is committed to working with local Turkish companies to manufacture the CTS800 engine as well as establish a local depot with maintenance and repair capabilities to support these future fleets," LHTEC president Daryl Mastin said.

The CTS800 turboshaft engine already supports the T129 ATAK helicopters currently in service with Turkish land forces, according to Flight Global. The five-ton, twin-engine Turkish Light Utility Helicopter is scheduled for delivery in 2020.

Rolls Royce interested in Turkey defense projects

Dünya – Rolls Royce is eyeing opportunities in Turkey’s ongoing defense and aerospace projects, according to Rolls Royce Turkey and Central Asia CEO Patrick Regis. Regis said to the press that Turkey’s aircraft and ship projects were of particular interest to the UK-based power systems manufacturer.

“We plan to take part in these projects through partnerships. The Advanced Manufacturing and Technology Center (AMTC) is also an endeavor we will contribute to Turkey’s development of advanced industrial capabilities,” he said, referring to research and development projects established by Turkey’s Ministry of Science, Industry and the Technology and the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK). Rolls Royce became the first industrial lead and founding member of AMTC.

Regis went on to praise Turkey’s labor force and geographic location and underlined the government’s support for technology development efforts. “As one of our priority countries, we aim to take advantage of the existing supply chain and further develop it via technology and know-how transfer,” he said.

Regis said that Turkey’s indigenous fighter jet project, the TF-X, was critically important. Rolls Royce is already an important supplier of engines for Turkish Airlines. “In case of a win in the upcoming tender, we aim to manufacture the engine of the aircraft in Turkey with participation from local industries”, he noted.

The TF-X, designed by Turkish Aerospace Industries, is expected to take to the skies by 2023 to coincide with the centennial of the foundation of the Republic of Turkey.

im pretty sure its tf100 variant. Ada is the original milgem class corvette with upgrades its tf100 we are buying that or atleast 2 of 4 would be them. The reason t129 is in talks again is that probably viper attack helo deal is also as same risky as f16 is maybe it gets cancelled too.

What happened to Mi-28, Pakistan was very interested in the new Mi-28. T-129 and AH-1Z share some similarities so it makes no sense for Pakistan to go for these. A heavy attack helicopter like Mi-28 can be used for destroying an armored invasion. Z-10 with WS-16 engine can become the backbone for our attack helicopter fleet. What features does T-129 has which M-35, Mi-28, Z-10 and AH-1Z do not have ?

Newly-appointed Turkish Defense Minister Fikri Isik and Pakistani counterpart Khawaja Muhammad Asif met Friday in Islamabad to discuss bilateral defense cooperation Anadolu Agency reported

"One of the most important issues between [the two countries] is a deal for T129 attack helicopters," Isik said at a joint press conference held after the meeting.

The deal for the sale of the T129s -- a multi-role attack helicopter co-developed by Turkish Aerospace Industries -- will "further enhance our bilateral cooperation in the defense industry," Isik asserted.

The Turkish defense minister added that plans to purchase Pakistani-made Super Mushshak basic trainer aircraft were still in the pipeline.

He went on to note that the Pakistani authorities, for their part, had requested the purchase of four Turkish Ada-class corvettes (which would be built in Pakistan).

Isik also said that Turkey and Pakistan had begun discussing details of a cooperation deal by which Turkey would help modernize the Pakistani navy's fleet of three Agosta-class submarines.

Isik also met with Pakistani army chief General Raheel Sharif on Friday at Pakistani army headquarters in the garrison city of Rawalpindi.

At the meeting, the two men discussed regional security and defense collaboration, according to an army statement issued after the meeting.

Isik, for his part, voiced his appreciation for the Pakistani armed forces' contributions to the fight against terrorism and promotion of regional peace and security.

Ada class corvette is very expensive, it comes with $250 million per unit. Pakistan should gone for Type056 corvette.

T 129 is based on US and some British technology. Has US engine. Turkey fail to get 3rd party sales agreement from UK, that's why Pakistan was not able to get this Helicopter. Engine manufacture in US, its sole defence agent sits in UK . And UK gave turkey license to use in there new helo. Also has some EU avionics.

no, the engine is made jointly by rolls-royce which is british and honey-well which is american this gives both the usa and the uk the ability to block the sale of the engine to who ever it wants. this problem is about not getting a licence to export the engine. heck the tf-100 uses american ge lm-2500 engines you think they will block that too ? what about the thales smart-s radar will it be allowed for export to pakistan? turkey makes them vi a licence but do they have an export licence? when you have money you can buy what ever you want. the problem with pakitan is that american kit usually is not at cost and which is where issues accure.
point im making here is that as long as if your buying up front then there's no problem. l

maybe they will add the umkhonto missile on the ada tf-100

Turkey has rights to sell Atak. Also Pakistan is an "OK" country which USA is also selling hardwares.If there were to be a blockade like they did to Iran,Usa would block the selling.But it is a normal commercial activity between allies.Atak can easyly fly with another engine but who wants it ?
Rolls Royce is trying to get into Tai F/X project and it wouldn't be fine for them to block such activity.If any case,if they block.It is a bad omen.Turkey can buy some engine technology from somewhere else and share some technology to them.
