Islamabad, Feb 4: In a shocking report, it has emerged that Pakistan is left with "one month of water supply" on hand. According to a 2013 report from the Asian Development Bank, 80 percent of Pakistan's agriculture relies on irrigation from the overstressed water system. Pakistan's average temperature is likely to increase around 3 degrees Celsius within the next 50 years, that's why people, especially in rural areas, have already started migrating out of the country for these reasons. Pakistan has lot of major challenges before combating the climate change woes. Another worrisome news is for those whose major source of income comes from timber industry, because deforestation is a major problem. The report says that Pakistan manages to retain only two and five percent of its tree cover. With high population, timber mafia and flooding due to deforestation, Pakistan has lot of major challenges before combating the climate change woes. In December last year, the World Bank gave Pakistan nearly $4 million to study deforestation and how to address it.

Water storage capacity of a country is a real thing, as absurd as it may sound. Its got nothing to do with India and more to do with Pakistan's lack of dams to store water. As the ADB report said, Pakistan is a water scarce country, and the guidelines say that a water scarce country should have a 1000 days worth of water storage capacity for its population.

During the days of Pervez Musharraf, Brick-lining of waterways was started. It's a long process, because, there is about 80,000 miles of them. It is estimated that once that process is complete the water saved due to seepage will be equal to the amount stored at 'Kala Bagh Dam'. The other obvious advantage is that it will stop waterlogging and salination of valuable agricultural land.

Now, let's see the Dams Pakistan is proposing to build:-

Balochistan[edit]

• Garuk Dam – proposed dam located on Garuk River, 47 km south east of Kharan District, Balochistan. The earth core rock-filled dam will have a height of 184 feet and a reservoir capacity of 50,695 acre feet. The reservoir when completed will irrigate a command area of 12,500 acres and will have hydro-power capacity of 300 KW.[13]
• Pelar Dam – proposed dam located across Nai River in Awaran District, Balochistan. The concrete gravity dam will be 60 feet high and will have a gross storage capacity of 99,175 acre feet. It will irrigate a command area of 25,650 acres. Installed capacity of the power station will be 300 KW.[14] Due to financial constraints, funding for the project was stopped in 2011.[15]
• Winder Dam – proposed dam on Winder River, Balochistan about 125 km from Lasbela city. The earth core rockfill dam will be 102 feet high with a gross storage capacity of 36,484 acre-feet and a command area of 10,000 acres. It will have an hydro-power generation capacity of 300 KW.[16]
• Hingol Dam – proposed
• Sukleji Dam – under construction
• Naulong Dam – under construction

By the way. 2 dams. Tarbela and Mangla of Pakistan come in Top 10 of the world's. Tarbela at 2nd place and Mangla at 9th. And Tarbela stores the most water on this planet. Is that enough water for Pakistan?? I think so.

When will it complete?

Anyway 100 small and medium dams will be completed in Balochistan by 2022. But main ones are 4, Kalabagh dam, 2-3 in Gilgit.

You got a problem with Pakis using "xyz amount of H2O"??? Do you not bath everyday?? Do you really understand how much water is needed not only in everyday life but as commercially too?

Is that "logical" enough for you?? No one really "overuses" water. That is really the absurd thing I have heard.

And no text is unnecesary. Those dams are there to store any excess amount of water which comes only in certain times of the year. Ever heard of the monsoon?? Yeah, that part of the year.

Lastly, this is a thread concerning Pakistan and not even we (Pakistanis) are really concerned. Since we know all of this in the first place is absurd.

You know what??? You should really visit the dams of Pakistan and firstly, the Tarbela one. The view of the Tarbela dam should really clear your mind of all thoughts concerning about the water of Pakistan. Just my 2 cents.
