Pakistan Has A Secret Weapon Called DRDO

.
One word- hal Tejas.

That's two words, actually.

And HAL Tejas is a remarkable achievement for HAL. It's a fourth gen fighter in service with the IAF, and in future, it will be the mainstay of the light end of their combat fleet, playing the same role that mig-21s played so crucially all these years for them. It is a qualitative leap for the IAF as far as their lower end is concerned, and some of the technologies developed in house for the Tejas is as good or better than anything that the IAF has yet had access to.

I doubt there is another agency in the world that produced a world class, contemporary 4th gen light aircraft without any experience or track record in designing aircrafts for about 40 years. It's quite an accomplishment for a country that had no aerospace design expertise to come up with a composite frame, multirole fighter that is as good as the most contemporary fighters, albeit with range and payload limitations, which of course fits into its intended role in the force.

Tejas is a modern, multirole fighter jet that can be mass produced in numbers, and will be. Do tell me what Pakistan has come up with in that regard. No, Chinese fighters like JF-17 don't count.

I already named a few. Did you miss that? I can name lots more, but do me a favor and use google.

Most of them failed to meet Indian armed forced requirements @ayesha.a :p:;):enjoy:

All of them are in service. Don't lie. It's a bad habit.

It does not fill your Basic operational needs.

Thus my first post

Is that why we are planning to induct it in the hundreds?

You said it's "not flying" - which was either a misinformed comment, or an outright lie. Now you shift the goalposts, but again, the IAF has already placed firm commitments for over a hundred Tejas, and laid out plans for another 123. They have already formed the first squadron, and are intensively training the first two batches of pilots on them.

BTW, if you think the Tejas doesn't meet their operational needs, think about what that says about the PAF, which has only one combat aircraft superior to the Tejas, which happens to be American.

The fact is that the Tejas is INEVITABLE to the IAF's operational needs. They cannot survive without a homegrown light aircraft in the hundreds to make up the lower end of their combat capability. The Tejas, in various incarnations, will make up a significant bulk of their fleet in future.

yes but you messed it up so badly not just the endless delays and cost overruns but the cost of the plane is stupid high to achieve its aim

everything about the Tejas programme is a HOW TO NOT list

I have been saying this for ages, the Gangadeshi industrial defence complex is the laughing stock of the region, their IIT educated staff are a complete and utter joke, some of our esteemed members on this forum have had IIT members work under them, their standard was appalling from what I hear, no wonder Gangadesh is held to a stalemate by a nation a mere fraction of it's size in geography and population yet they have the audacity to try to compare themselves with China, truly a delusional bunch of folk.Kudos

It is good for us to keep our rivals under an illusion...So we do not mind accepting a fact that IIT is a joke...

You can Plan all you want. I consider it as your freedom of expression.

Some parts of the Tejas program read like a "how to not do things list", I'll grant you that. The keyword being "some". I can give you some ten or so critiques about what the IAF should have done better.

But at the end of the day, we have a home-made, contemporary light fighter jet incorporating the latest technologies in every field. Not only is it a boon to our air force, but it also means a lot to our domestic industrial capability.

Can you boast the same? :)

Also, I mentioned a few DRDO products that I could name off the top of my head earlier - can you name a few Pakistani equivalents to those? If you can't, then wouldn't you agree that the title of this thread is a mockery?

You can Plan all you want. I consider it as your freedom of expression.

You might want to educate yourself as to what that phrase means.

Pakistan defence industrial base better than ours: Army vice chief

Lt. Gen. Sarath Chand, Vice Chief of Army Staff (VCOAS), said the ordnance factories have not been able to keep pace with changing technology while "there is no competition whatsoever" and it is "an unsuccessful method of supporting our defence requirements".

A top Army general on Tuesday said Pakistan has a better military industrial base and exports more defence equipment than India, as he came down heavily on ordnance factories which manufacture weapons for the forces. Lt. Gen. Sarath Chand, Vice Chief of Army Staff (VCOAS), said the ordnance factories have not been able to keep pace with changing technology while “there is no competition whatsoever” and it is “an unsuccessful method of supporting our defence requirements”.

“I would even go to the extent of saying that Pakistan probably has a better industrial base, as far as defence production is concerned, than our country. In fact they export defence equipment abroad, definitely more than what we are doing,” he said.

He wondered whether the functioning of ordnance factories is because of the assured orders they have or the lack of accountability. “There is little or no research and development. They do not even have the capability of absorbing the industry through transfer of technology, and in some cases they have even failed to assemble products that have been imported from abroad,” Lt. Gen. Chand said.

“It is very hard to see ordnance factories changing in the present state. Overall it has become an unsuccessful method of supporting our defence requirements,” he said. He was speaking at the inaugural session of AMICON 2017, a two-day conference organised by the Army and the CII.

He noted that having indigenous industrial capability is very crucial for the country. He further cautioned that in an event of a war, one has to look abroad for its sustenance. “And very often, friends have let us down whenever the chips have been down,” Lt. Gen. Chand observed.

He said the ‘Make in India’ programme, the Defence Procurement Policy 2016, the strategic partnership model, and the creation of the Army Design Bureau (ADB), are major steps taken by the government for fast-tracking indigenisation in the sector.

He was talking this in the very limited context of Army Ordinance Factory and it's slow and inefficient ways .
