Pakistan grants India Most Favoured Nation trade status

Pakistan after being pushed towards the wall (for many reasons), going through worst PR era, and having lowest growth ever has found friendship with India as a breather and salvation to all above problems.

Siding with a state who has better repport with rest of the world and signaling the same world that we are economy centric farewell state who value good relationship with the neighbours will help Pakistan for the time being if the gestures are really meant to be just symbolic diplomatic tricks.

or

If it is really a change of heart like we a say the paradigm shift the way Pakistan sees India and something on the ground is really done by both to take this MFN forrward then it will be a long term fruitful partnership.

What is most-favoured nation (MFN) status?

All the over 150 members of the World Trade Organisation offer MFN status to other member countries. In addition, under regional trade agreements such as the South Asian Free Trade Agreement ( Safta), the signatories offer the same to other partners so that all benefits of the various treaties are available multilaterally. Pakistan was the only WTO member that had not given MFN status to India.

Why was Pakistan denying it?

It was a political issue since there was a fear that anti-India elements may create domestic tension. There was also a fear that Made in India products would flood Pakistan.

When did India give MFN status to Pakistan?

New Delhi has never denied MFN status to its western neighbour. In fact, with India being one of the proponents of General Agreement on Tariffs & Trade, WTO's predecessor, Pakistan has always enjoyed the benefit. India officially accorded the MFN status to Pakistan in 1996. Although India could have raised the issue at WTO and got Pakistan to accord MFN status, it did not pursue that option.

How will it help India and Pakistan?

The move will boost trade between the two countries as Pakistan will now have a small negative list, where imports are restricted or banned. At present, Pakistan has a small list of items that are on the positive list resulting in negligible trade between the two neighbours. There is, however, thriving indirect trade with goods routed through third countries such as UAE. With the negative list mechanism in place, costs will also come down as trade will take place directly.

What are the other benefits?

Experts say MFN status for India will boost trade in South Asia. In addition, it is seen as one of the biggest confidence building measures that will boost diplomatic and political relations with Pakistan.

Last when I checked India has always been a democracy.

Useless off topic rant.

democracy my arse.
india calling itself democratic is like north korea calling themselves DPRK(democratic people's republic of korea).

india has 'elections' just to fool the public into believing indian people actually has a voice.
but india is run by the indian military, its a military dictatorship.

indian politicians are corrupt, they steal tax money to go to trips overseas, spend it on luxurious lifestyles, meet their fellow dictators, seduce beautiful women into slave sex, etc.
just look at how the disastrous commonwealth games happened, all promises but no delivery.
corruption.

and the funniest thing is that government owned indian media has brainwashed the indian people into believing that the military dictatorship is actually a 'democracy' and that the indian people have nothing to worry about.

the gullible indians buy this like little toddlers.
the commonwealth games showed what a corrupt dictatorship the indian regime truly is.
they humiliated the indian people by promising a grand games and then what happened, collapsing bridges, uneven netball courts, unhygenic athletes village full of sewage water and human and animal waste, etc.

indians that think their politicians are some kind of perfect gods are very gullible humans.
most of these politicians are bought and paid by the western multinationals and western governments, thats why the west loves india, because whatever decision the indian dictatorship takes, it will be pro-western because the indians dare not go against their western masters.
india never really got independence from the british, the british just bought indian politicians instead of direct rule, the british now rule india indirectly.

the governement owned indian media has brainwashed the indian people how everything is fine.

Cannot understand how does Indian democracy concern anyone least of all a Chinese in Russia.

If its good its Indian, if its bad its Indian. No one asked for comments or opinion , the subject at hand is MFN status and posters drift off to Indian Dictatorship, democracy.

..and yes..Your Arse. There is a similarity between democracy & your arse

You can scratch it when you like
You can expose it when you like
The sh1t & gasses that come out from it are necessary or else constipation sets in.It also is a part of natural ' urges' all humans have .

Well it works both ways. Pakistani cement is said to be less expensive than Indian one and if they play their cards correctly Pakistani cement companies can give Indian ones run for their money.

Thanks third eye for the Info. I think i am aware of most of the points you posted. I was making a different point BTW.

I don't like this.........

You don't need to like it, you need it.

Trade between India-Pakistan is 2.7 billion per annum, that is 10% of Pakistans exports and 1% of Indias Exports, we won't care about it anyways.

I think your politicians and military made a right choice rather than Kashmir First rhetoric that has landed you in bankruptcy.

Pakistani Information Minister Firdous Ashiq Awan said his country’s powerful military, which effectively dictates policy toward India, had agreed to Wednesday’s decision. The Foreign Ministry also welcomed it.

Seems like some of the Generals up in Islamabad have come to their senses that Pakistan will have to move over Kashmir and make friends with India. Hope this leads to more peace.

trading with india is like trading with the devil.
be very careful pakistan, indian threat must be eliminated from asia.

india will find a way to screw pakistan.

You guys also call White man the Devil, doesnt stop you from trading with him or India, and earning money, why suggest Pakistan to stop doing it? Hypocrisy

Thanks Pakistan............
India and Pakistan coming closer............Many shops of hatred will be closed soon.........Ab tere kya hooga AMERIKA...
