What's new

Pakistan football also needs its PSL: Kaleemullah

Pakistan has a abundance of talent, look at this.
Look at how diverse Pakistan is, black, white and brown skinned, all equal. Hopefully we hear something good about Pakistani football soon.

No one cares about soccer in pak would rather invest in wrestling, boxing, mma, kabbadi

Sponsors who put money into Projects, they typically invest in projects , where they see maximum number of people will watch the sport. When they will watch the sport they will see their company's advertisement , so they will sell more shampoo or chewing gum etc.

Now , when it comes to Football , the problem is Football is loved by Youth people in age group 5-18 years old , but the older audience with Money they prefer to watch Cricket

There is a ideology in country
  • "If it is not Cricket you can't earn a decent earning or living to feed your children"

Cricket has not had this stigma attached , as we know Cricket players get money they get to tour England/Australia or South Africa or world wide they make decent earning

Failure at National Level to sustain a healthy , functional League of 20 Professional Clubs with yearly budget to be able to pay salaries of 20 players in each club, there is no Funding Released for Clubs to be able to sustain payment of 20 players each year by 20 clubs

How clubs make money? (This infrastructure is missing)
  • They run community training age 5 to 15 years generate money from training
  • They run local community leagues pay to play for age 15-age 50
  • They make money from Ticket sales
  • The Leagues are played on high quality grounds (grass or artificial grass)

The Problem
The focus at Federation Level is on Airconditioned buildings and Halls and Museums

SQUASH
Squash was popular due to Jhangir Khan and Jansheer Khan their family sport was Squash and they had great level of pride to play that sport they not only played but set word record in term of Stamina and endurance

They were from a sports family

What they had was will power and determination and ability to train 3-4 hours daily

Hockey

It was supported initially @ national level as it was tied to British culture habits from before partition and at one time this sport was more popular then Football thus it was a major Olympic event

In Europe and even in America or Canada , field hockey is played at University Levels

In Pakistan , Hockey faced same problem as Football , lack of League structure. Because Hockey and Football operate on similar Professional organization

In past Pakistan , simple distributed free hockey sticks in Villages and was able to unearth talent and yes we still find great talent at Armature level but these players are used to playing game in grass fields , the world has moved to playing on turf which is smooth surface and is more focused on "Physical Fitness" vs skill

Also the Law changes , allowing player to use Body to shield the ball allowed changes in tactics allowed bigger taller European players to have tactical advantage on field

They should build 20k capacity stadiums which have scope for upgrades in all major cities and start a league. Each team gets a first team, reserve, u18 and youth team.

They do care, but I mean the best football pitch in Pakistan is prob worse than my garden, that’s says a lot.

They should build 20k capacity stadiums which have scope for upgrades in all major cities and start a league. Each team gets a first team, reserve, u18 and youth team.
They should, I saw this advert a few days ago about Lahore marina city, with a new cricket and football stadium, and it was Lahore qal advertising it, but I assume it’ll go to waste like the previous Lahore sport city. Tbh I don’t see any good pitches in Pakistan any time soon.

Stadiums don't make athlete

Olympic standard and Global World Cup Standards have risen at very high levels

What athletes need in Pakistan is
a) Professional Salary (This area Pakistan Lacks)
b) Access to proper fields (not stadiums)
c) Access to proper fitness centers
d) Access to Youth Coaching for fundamentals
e) Access to focus 5 hours daily for Professional Sports skills development
f) For Team games , Tactics and strategy is learned in school and applied on field

Having League setup with Salary , Coaches , Training Staff, and Proper sports ground creates international caliber standard

Professional Sports is about "Making a Living with sports" that concept is misunderstood in Pakistan , where money does not exists in None Cricket areas

Pakistan Army , Navy dominates sports in Pakistan due to fitness level players (Armature level Standard)

Thinking Professionally means , lively hood , making earning that concept is not correctly applied in Pakistan's sports

Professional Leagues Nationally
Leagues, continue to to provide Lively hood for players age 18-40 years old but the income needs to match certain standards of living , which makes a person dedicate 25 years of their lives to a sport at age 12

Importance of Soft Image , winning medals is not understood in Pakistan

What Pakistan has traditionally done
  • The idea of giving away 1,000 hockey sticks in villages or 400 footballs does not creates athletes the ideology of manufacturing an athletes needs to be understood
  • A 30 day camp is set in city , coaches evaluate 2,000 kids and pick 30 players for next round (For example in Cricket)
  • When player is 18-19 year old then people try to fix their technique and it is not possible at that age to make big changes in basic skills
This mentality is finished , the world has moved on to different standard

Star footballer Kaleemullah has urged Pakistan's football authorities to follow the Pakistan Cricket Board's (PCB) lead and stage events similar to the Pakistan Super League (PSL) to nurture local talent.

Kaleem made those remarks while attending the Peshawar Zalmi versus Multan Sultans fixture of PSL 2020 in Karachi on Friday as PCB’s guest for the segment “Hamaray Heroes”.

“When you’re in professional league and you rub shoulders with top players from around the world, you get to learn a lot. It gives you exposure of top-level contests and also provides you an opportunity to understand the game’s intensity,” he told Geo News.

“We need such professional leagues in football as well. There are professional leagues everywhere in the world of football and it is high time that we get one in Pakistan as well,” he said, hoping that the Pakistan Football Federation would announce its plan of staging a pro league soon.

Meanwhile, the 27-year-old said that it was an honour for him to be invited by the PCB at one of the biggest stage of Pakistan sports.

“Cricket is widely followed and of course when you get recognition at such level, you feel encouraged. It is a great step by PCB,” he said of board’s initiative of Hamaray Heroes.

Hi Altitude soccer training grounds would be a good start up in the Himalayan hills and mountains. We could rent them out to international clubs to generate revenue too. Pakistan has some of the best footballer kids in the world, just need to get the momentum going and start up the league. Nothing from stopping us building indoor stadiums too.
