Pakistan face West Indies in first ODI today

SHARJAH: Pakistan will face West Indies in the first one-day international at Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Friday, ARY News reported.

After whitewashing the Twenty20 champions West Indies in the T20 series under the captaincy of Sarfraz Ahmed, it is now upto Azhar Ali to take the reigns of the unpredictable Pakistani side and lead them to victory.

Azhar Ali’s leadership has come under fire following the horror show in the ODI series against England, which they lost 4-1.

Pakistan has only managed to win two out of their previous 10 games. The side has to whitewash the West Indies team in order to regain eighth spot in the ICC ODI rankings.

Umar Akmal, Rahat Ali, Sharjeel Khan and Asad Shafiq making their ODI comeback in the series against West Indies.

The two former champions will clash for the first time since their encounter in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015.

The first game of the three-match series will start at 04.00 pm Pakistan Standard Time (PST) today.

Pakistan (squad): Azhar Ali (captain), Asad Shafiq, Babar Azam, Hasan Ali, Imad Wasim, Mohammad Amir, Mohammad Nawaz, Mohammad Rizwan, Rahat Ali, Sarfraz Ahmed (wicket keeper), Sharjeel Khan, Shoaib Malik, Sohail Khan, Umar Akmal, Wahab Riaz and Yasir Shah.

The best thing that happened to our opening today is that Azhar got out on the first delivery. Had he been here we would be like 33 for 0 is 10 overs.
In modern ODI, i will take 60 for 1 in 10 overs every time!

You know what, i really like him as a test player. Also i still feel that we need at least on batsman like him who is sure to score 35-45 runs EVERY time even if he takes 50 odd ball to do that. However him as an opener? This is ODI man, and this is 2016!! You cannot have your openers scoring 18 of 53 balls for god's sake

I am not a 4s and 6s man myself, i prefer test cricket over any other format of the game but still when you are playing ODI and the modern game, you need to approach the game with an aggressive and positive attitude. Not with the kind of negative mind set Azhar or Shafiq will bring in the team. Again, we need a a guy who can score sure runs even if he scores them at slow pace but his position is somewhere in the middle and not on top. Some one like Younis or Misbah!! Specially younis!! Someone who can rotate the strike. Azhar and Shafiq dont even run for those singles for crying out loud!!
