Though the early projections put Khan's Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) ahead, Shehbaz Sharif, the leader of the outgoing ruling party, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), has raised allegations that the elections results were manipulated and rigged.

A US State of Department spokesman told the Press Trust of India: “We continue to monitor developments and have consistently emphasised our support for free, fair, transparent and accountable elections in Pakistan, as we do around the world.”

The spokesman refused to say the State of Department believes the polls are “free and fair”.

A former Pakistan ambassador to the US, Husain Haqqani, claimed the results were suspicious.

Mr Haqqani said: “PML-N and PPP were running under constraints and PTI was operating with complete freedom and establishment backing.”

He also suggested unless the military-led establishment shuts down its “jihadi business”, the result was unlikely to change.

The former ambassador added: “It is unlikely that a prime minister Imran Khan will act decisively against jihadis, given his sympathy for their cause but miracles can happen.”

PML-N leader, Shehbaz Sharif has threatened a legal challenge to the results of the election.

The politician wrote on Twitter on Thursday morning: “We will use all political and legal options for redressed of these glaring excesses.

“This is an outright rigging.

“The results based on massive rigging will cause irreparable damage to the country.”

All parties, aside from the leading PTI are raising allegations of vote fixing, including reports of election monitors being forced out of polling stations.

The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, Pakistan People’s Party and Muttahida Qaumi Movement have all alleged problems in the voting process.

Complaints include polling agents not being allowed into polling stations and voters not being given appropriate forms on time.

The Election Commission of Pakistan Secretary said the results will be shared as soon as they are in.

pmln was also imposed by army and in begining of their political career they were also promoted by army as honest people bringing change and now same happening in the form of pti.corruption will not end unless army is also made accountable for money they use along with politicians

Parties with which IK is comfortable are being "awarded" constituencies (by you know who) so that the PTI (and you know who) can run Pakistan for the time being. I wish a free and fair elections were held there. So many Pakistanis may have been disappointed today.

They may have rejected - or they may have not. You will never know and that's the point.

Free and fair or not Pakistani people doesn't have any problem it seems ..There should be no problem for external world .But I must say army should be shown it's rightful place ,or else nothing gonna change in reality ..Blind love for army is making whole nation blind and in this blindness any good institution can loose it's path and become a liability..
