Pakistan Denies Operation in N. Waziristan

Another case of you build a solider , hype him up and then assasinate him to move to next victim

Here we go again.. The good terrorist and the bad terrorist..

Pakistan seems to be getting into the habbit of moving from one benefactor to another (USA to China) and One good terrorist to another ... :disagree:

In case you didn't know, the US is also negotiating with some Taliban and fighting the others. It's all about siphoning off manpower from your enemy's side to yours.

NATO has shown its duplicity in this whole war, and we need to focus on the NATO-backed terrorists in Pakistan.

Another option would be to work actively with the Haqqani network to kill the TTP. The Afghan Taliban are probably better suited to root out and kill the TTP terrorists in those mountainous areas, and they probably wouldn't mind the practice.

There is ZERO doubt now that NATO is working against Pakistan, so why should we play their game?

But the Afghan Talibans are working with TTP, there has been enough evidence of support for the TTP inside Afghanistan from the Afghan Taliban. Near Bajaur, the TTP run back into Afghanistan where they are sheltered by their masters. About time we realize that Pakistan has to deal with this problem by force, we have tried the dialogue route and it has failed big time.

You can keep believing that the Afghan Taliban will root out the TTP, but in fact they are the ones helping them. Pakistan has no other option but to get rid of this menace by force. TTP leaders and other foreign terrorists are hiding safely in NW, this is unacceptable for a country which claims to be sovereign. At one point we talk about the Drones violating our sovereignty, but on the other hand we dont even control that freakin territory. This whole war has gone way too long and enough innocent lives have been lost, dont delude yourself into thinking that the Afghan Talibans are friends of Pakistan. They never were and never will be, they are our enemies and will always remain our enemy. Pakistan needs a stable but neutral Afghanistan that is not hostile to our interests.

I wonder what the hell is going on!

What is going on is that PA is quietly building up its forces and is surrounding NW. If my estimation is correct, close to half a division will be deployed for the operation. PAF is flying constant reccon missions over the area and is mapping out the defences for the PA. PAF is quietly adding LGB's to its inventory and gunships are constantly performing practice maneuvers for the upcoming operation. The attack at PNS Mehran has shaken the Pakistan Armed Forces from the core, Pakistan Armed Forces dont take the destruction of their strategic assets lightly.

a army which couldn't do anything for the people in kashmir is going to open another front for their own people

I would say this would be very wrong action that would destablize Pakistan. A very wrong decision at very wrong time. "NADAN JUKH GIYA SUJDE ME, JUB WAQT_E_QIYAAM AYA "

terrorists go out for about a year or so then they come back...the Indonesians give their captives good pure Islamic books to read and changes their mindset.......we need to develop schools and impart true knowledge of Islam once we flush them out of the tribal areas

But the Afghan Talibans are working with TTP, there has been enough evidence of support for the TTP inside Afghanistan from the Afghan Taliban. Near Bajaur, the TTP run back into Afghanistan where they are sheltered by their masters.

Afghan Taliban claimed that they are not allied with TTP. Also, there were claims that TTP were helped by NATO/Afghan forces when they flee across the border.

The TTP must be masters at diplomacy if they are friends with both NATO and the Afghan Taliban. It's hard to know what's really going on over the border.

Yeah.. You did that on USA's behest in 1980's with Mujahiddins (later converted to Taliban). Look where it got you..

Pakistan general rules out N. Waziristan offensive

Associated Press

. A top Pakistani army commander said Wednesday that his military has no imminent plans to launch an offensive in a tribal region home to numerous militants who focus on attacking U.S. and NATO forces in neighboring Afghanistan.

The statement by Lt. Gen. Asif Yasin Malik contradicted rampant media speculation that an operation in North Waziristan was in the works after years of requests for it from the United States.

Malik's dismissal came as police said a cross-border insurgent attack elsewhere in the northwest killed five security troops on Wednesday.

The general oversees military operations in the tribal areas and other parts of the northwest bordering Afghanistan. He spoke to reporters on a military-hosted trip to Mohmand, one of the tribal regions where the army has attacked Taliban and other Islamist extremists.

His reasoning for holding off on an offensive in North Waziristan was the same advanced by other army officials in recent years — that Pakistani troops are too stretched going after insurgents elsewhere.

Unlike the major militant groups in North Waziristan, the insurgent groups Pakistan has targeted tend to stage most of their attacks inside Pakistan.

"There is no change in North Waziristan in past months and weeks," Malik said. "We will undertake an operation when we want to, when it's in the national interest."

Local media reports have recently suggested that Pakistan may have been persuaded to carry out a limited operation in North Waziristan soon as a means of rebuilding ties with the United States, which have been badly damaged by the May 2 American raid that killed Osama bin Laden.

Pakistani leaders insist they had no idea the al-Qaida chief was hiding in the northwest garrison city of Abbottabad. But they have called the unilateral U.S. incursion a violation of their sovereignty.

Top U.S. officials say there's no evidence that the upper echelons of Pakistani military and civilian leadership knew bin Laden's whereabouts, but suspicions persist that some elements in lower ranks of the security forces may have helped harbor the terrorist leader.

Since the bin Laden attack, a wave of bloodshed has swept Pakistan. Several of the attacks have been claimed by the Pakistani Taliban — one of the groups the army is moving against — who say they are avenging bin Laden.

Pakistani general condemns North Waziristan ‘hype’

MOHAMAD GAT, Pakistan: A leading Pakistani commander on Wednesday sought to play down “media hype” over the prospect of an imminent military offensive to meet US interests in North Waziristan.

Lieutenant General Asif Yasin Malik, the corps commander supervising all military operations in the northwestern province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, told reporters: “We will undertake operation in North Waziristan when we want to.”

“There has been a lot of media hype about the operation,” said Malik in the Mohamad Gat area of tribal district Mohmand, where the military flew reporters to show off apparent progress in battles against home-grown Taliban.

“We will undertake such an operation when it is in our national interest militarily,” the general said, describing North Waziristan as “calm and peaceful as it was weeks ago”.

Asked whether there was a need for such an operation, he said only: “Maybe ultimately we will go to North Waziristan”.

The General is right.

Media hype will only cramp the operations and it will only be a damp squib.

When that happens, the media will have a field day criticising all and sundry!

Yeah.. You did that on USA's behest in 1980's with Mujahiddins (later converted to Taliban). Look where it got you..

All I am saying is that we should focus our war on TTP because they are the ones conducting terrorism within Pakistan. The Afghan Taliban are not attacking Pakistan, but they will certainly do so if we provoke them.

The Americans have their priorities and we have ours.

The Afghan Taliban are not working with the TTP, however both groups have provided refuge to Al-Qaeda. Al-Qaeda was not a threat to Pakistan pre-9/11, but it did become one post 9/11 when Pakistan joined the WOT. This is where the problem lies.
