Pakistan condemns U.S. court notice to intelligence officials
IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Islamabad, Nov 26, IRNA -- Pakistan on Thursday dismissed as preposterous the US court decision to summon the officials of the country’s intelligence agency in the 2008 attacks in the Indian commercial city of Mumbai.

A US court has summoned top officials of Pakistani spy agency Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), in the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks in response to a case filed by relatives of two American victims.

“Pakistan is committed to bring the perpetrators of Mumbai terror attacks to justice, so dragging intelligence agencies into this in any manner is preposterous,” Foreign Ministry spokesman Abdul Basit said when he was asked bout the US court decision.

The spokesman said he has no exact or fuller details of the American court decision.

However, he pointed out that trial against seven accused in the Mumbai attack is underway in Pakistan.

Reports suggest that summons were issued by a New York court to ISI's powerful chief, Lt. Gen. Ahmed Shuja Pasha and other officials, as also Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) commander Zakiur Rahman Lakhvi and Jamaat-ud Dawa chief Hafiz Saeed, the alleged masterminds of the Nov 26-29, 2008 Mumbai terror attack.

Pakistani government has denied any involvement but the country’s interior minister Rehman Malik admits that parts of the Mumbai attacks plans were prepared in Pakistan.

The 26-page lawsuit was filed before a Brooklyn court last week by family members of Rabbi Gavriel Noach Holtzberg and his pregnant wife, Rivka, who were among the 166 people killed during the attack.

The suit alleges that ISI 'provided critical planning, material support, control and coordination for the attacks' to the Pakistan-based militant group LeT, which has been blamed for the 26/11 siege.

The LeT is also named in the suit.

isnt there another topic on this already?

by the way --- said ISI officials are not obligated to tend to this so-called "court notice"

perhaps the US should focus more on how their asset Mr. David Headley went rogue and helped plan one of the most sophisticated attacks with such international dimension and backing to it.

this shows what will be USA in few years, it already shaking, losing respect and credibility, god save USA!!!

Why does any news like this have to be immediately followed by dire predictions of the downfall of the USA?

As imperfect as it is, and with a multitude of problems it faces, both domestic and international, the USA is still a country with millions of hardworking, dedicated and talented individuals who have made this country great and are likely to continue their efforts to keep it great.

Please do not understimate this potential ever.

this is their downfall, its our experience, and not a prediction

why americans needed obama so earnestly???, why they positioned a black on a white house after like 300 years after independence suddenly, wasnt america enlightened before that?? these r clear signs of desperation, and this black guy has been a disappointment ever since

only a weak govt has got to play bulls crap pawned roles like these

The Americans are free to ask us to send our Top Officials to their courts, and we are free to tell them No.

They can whine and rant about it all they want.

How can it be an experience if it has not happened yet? By definition you are "predicting" this as the outcome, but I must tell you that this prediction is not likely to be true.

Obama's election is just another example of how a vibrant democracy having its roots in a educated population works, that is all.

Please also note that the White House is not named for the color of its occupants.

During the War of 1812, the British invaded Washington DC and burned many public buildings on August 24, 1814, including the President residence and the home of the US Congress (the Capitol building).

To repair the damage caused by the fire, the President's house was later whitewashed. This repair effort was immortalised by the British by nicknaming the building the "white house" to commemorate their military victory.

And that is how the building got its present day name.

wasnt america enlightened before that??

Enlightenment is an ONGOING process my dear Sir, inlcuding present day times.

these r clear signs of desperation, and this black guy has been a disappointment ever since

To call these processes signs of desperation is clear hyperbolic over-reach and not a serious comment worthy of a specific response.

However, it is true that President Obama has not been able to deliver everything that he promised and that was expected of him. But, that is part and parcel of the political process.

only a weak govt has got to play bulls crap pawned roles like these

I think your statement applies much better to the Government of Pakistan than it does to the USA.

You should seriously go thru American history though..

They have faced much more challenges than today's, be it economical (great depression) or integrity/racism(civil war) or anything else.

P.S(Anyway, im not looking to go there and settle down for sure)

Rgds,

Honestly, what a load of cr@p. A minor(or even a major) hiccup in economic terms and you are predicting a downfall of the lone superpower and your most giving ally. On the other hand, you believe despite all the mess that Pakistan lives in today, it can not fail. I mean c'mon, get real..

US Court has no jurisdiction in this matter.

Not a criminal case, its a law suit. I guess most Pakistani members who are commenting like Paksher are not aware of what a wrongful death suit means. The only outcome of this is whether the defendents will end up paying damages to the plantifs or not. Appearance of any of the defendents (ISI or LeT ) is not mandated in such cases.

Yes they have

2 US citizen died in those attack

Actually 6 American citizens died. Therefore the FBI was obliged (by US law) to investigate the deaths. Which it did. And US courts have jurisdiction on the (unnatural) deaths of US citizens.
How the summons affect the respondents is a different matter. Since the suit claim overlaps international boundaries, it is not a simple matter at all. The US Govt.and its agencies will be bound to respond. Other parties may respond differently.
But this will be a very interesting legal case, we will have to wait and see how it plays out and how it affects various parties.

This case will die its natural death, neither will state dept persue it vigerously, nor Pakistan will comply with US court request. Compensation would be given to the victim family by US government. Last time this type of case has happened, where US gov did not want to persue such case in order to suppress confidential-intel info coming into public domain.
