Pakistan cannot compete with India, the whole world recognizes the strength of India's IT industry : Miftah Ismail

Question: Why should Pakistan compete with India in IT? Is this a "must have" or what?

You want your economy to grow, no?
Sure you want! The point is: Do you want develop first for your own needs or do you want compete (include pricing) from nearly zero against a country what already has the train running?

I had two Pakistani in my team at the time when i did IT-infrastructure and IT-services for greater banks and insurancies. They worked good. And that was 30 (edit) 26 years ago ^^ So there is for sure potential in Pakistan for own IT industry.

Even Pakistan's former minister could not stop himself from praising India's IT sector. Former Finance Minister of Pakistan Miftah Ismail said that the whole world recognizes the strength of India's IT industry. India has IITs due to which it is developing. In fact, Miftah Ismail said in a tweet that people can ask him any question regarding the economy. They will answer it. On this, a user told him that the best way to increase our economy is the IT sector. India underwent major changes in the 90s and became a major country in the IT sector.
The IT sector is estimated to contribute 10% to India's economy by 2025. Why does our IT sector contribute only 1 percent?' To this Miftah Ismail gave a reply which every Indian would be proud to hear. Miftah Ismail lauded Indian educational institutions for developing India's IT sector. He said, 'India's IT sector is ahead because India has IITs and many great universities and we don't. Foreigners do not invest in Pakistan or open service related offices due to bad law and order situation.

The IT industry is one of the fastest growing sectors in India. It covers a diverse range including software development, engineering services, digital transformation and cloud computing. He said that India's best and most skilled engineers have captured the world's IT sector. India's favorable business environment is a major reason for its growth.

When many Pakistani YouTube channels asked their people why India is ahead, they clearly pointed to the Indian IT industry as the reason. Later, when asked why India is ahead in the IT industry, he said that IITs are behind it. The glory of IITs is recognized all over the world. That is why many countries want IITs to open their branches here as well. An IIT campus will open in the UAE.

I would agree with what he has said - it is a matter of fact. India made a good decision with IIT's many decades ago and it is now paying off. India has had the advantage of some good intellectual leaders who had vision and forsight and invested in the right areas. Pakistan has always lacked intellectual depth in its "political elite" as it has never been a criteria for success in Pakistan, it is the opposite unfortunately. Modi is reaping the benefit of his predecessors decisions that have now matured and started to bear fruit..

India/Philippine success in service sector I believe is more related to their English speaking education system. Even Indian speaks English in their parliament. In one hand it is showing Britain great influent within the countries but in a positive side it gives them much opportunity to target Western market as they can give lower cost for their service

Other nations I believe will likely catch up with their growing English speaking university graduates as well.

English is the language of the knowledge industry - it is the languate of IT, most scientific research and literature. There is no getting away from the English language if you want to progress. This is the one bit that Imran Khan does not understand or appreciate. Teaching english to a high standard should be mandatory to all Pakistani students of all calibre's, not just the "elite".

That is really sad to hear.

In BD, IT has been a "thrust" sector under current BAL government and exports have been growing at 35-40% a year average since 2009. Government has put in all the building blocks like fast and reliable internet connectivity, data centres, training colleges and has even built "Hi-Tech Parks" to allow the consolidation of lots of IT companies in single sites.

PK is behind than India in IT/Startups but ahead of BD. Our startups get 3X the valuation/funding and almost 2X IT exports than BD.

Not really it's voodoo science
It's pretty simple
India doesn't has advantage
We are simply uncompetitive due to corruption

Old data.

BD is rapidly catching up with Pakistan.
Bd is ahead of Pakistan per latest data even though BD started just a few yrs ago

Pakistan is bananas state that's pretty much it

i would go as far as to say that modi is one of those leaders with a vison and foresight, for example he knows the importence of infrastructure and is investing like crazy in it (2023 budget is a testament to this), he knows a technocrat can achieve things a politician can not even dream of, he knows the importance of internet and digitization, he knows the importance of private sectors and MSMEs. His efforts will surely pay off in the future,

I would say just use texbook from Harvard, Cambridge during study in universities. Local publisher should publish the book in its origin language ( English )

Basically this is why I can improve my vocabulary, by reading English texbook to learn subjects taught in my faculty (campus).

I was doing it in my own initiative since at my campus they teach my subjects using Indonesian author texbook or translated English books.

While in India they use English in their universities.

But English is now taught since first year in Elementary school in Indonesia. I see Indonesian kids are getting better in their English since they are taught since very early age.

In my older brother neighborhood, 50 % kids whose ages are around 10 years old are already using English when they speak to their friends. Upper middle class neighborhood, not rich families housing complex.

I recently heard one of your generals bought a whole freakin island in Australia.
It was General kiyani.

Why dont Pakistani awam question the corruption of their army is beyond my understanding....!?
Because those who do end up in prison or worse, as happened recently to the guy who exposed Bajwa sir.

It’s right Pakistan missed this great opportunity, but it’s still not late. I am 35 and I am changing from machine engineering to software development.

Good luck.

Here is the thing - the IT industry is a industry that thrives on young people. Getting an IT degree takes you alot of the way there interms of getting employment. Having good internet is the other ingredient.

India has an advantage and a "brand for IT outsourcing - it is almost a default decision sometimes" but it is one that cannot last as it so easy to transplant to anywhere in the world where you can get IT trained people at the "right price". I have been involved in setting up a 300+ IT dev centre for my company in Poland under a near shore strategy, another one in Scotloand on a local-shore strategy. We are diversifying the footprint - where the growth for IT resources is being done across different countries. Our India presence is stagnant interms of numbers right now. Covid changed the thinking of where the IT resources are - a bit like Apple diversifying with its manufacturing in China strategy

A building, fibre optic internet access and young STEM graduates with internationally recognised degree is what you need.. - and then you are now off to the races.

India knows this aswell - everyone is after India's lunch - hence the "make in India" strategy to diversify. Manufacturing is alot more difficult to relocate since it requires massive capital investments, and lots of time to setup manufacturing supply lines etc.

IT services is a lot lot simplier..
