What's new

Pakistan Army testing MBT-3000 next moth ?

If I may ask, what is the unit cost of VT-4 ???

Some one mentioned MBT 3000 /Al Haider cost $4-$5 million...I doubt this value for Pakistan when it buys the license without some Chinese parts in MBT3000, to become Pakistani Al Haider it would cost max $2-$3 million before upgrades. and then; when a complete new tank 'AL HAIDER' emerges with Pakistani indigenization, domestication and European / Korean parts and subsystems, it would cost around $6 million to $7 million a piece.

LOL Korean/European parts in a Chinese MBT made under licence.

HK has been quite reliable in the past. These guys work with Defense News, Janes etc.

Yes it has been reliable but it's time for a change. Aren't we inducted g3m to all units eventually?

whats the LOL about, take that same LOL in ur mouth for good: Pakistani Al Akhalid had variants, P1, P2, P3, P4 apart from made in Pak parts, mostly from western and old soviet countries like Ukraine are installed. This is how a tank is made, not ur lungi.
  • P1 – Prototype incorporating a Chinese 125 mm gun, autoloader and fire-control system, German MTU-396 diesel engine and Renk LSG-3000 automatic transmission.
  • P2 – Prototype incorporating a Chinese 125 mm gun and autoloader, Western fire-control system, Perkins 1200 hp Condor diesel engine and French SESM ESM500 automatic transmission.
  • P3 – Prototype fitted with Chinese 125 mm gun and autoloader, Western fire-control system, Ukrainian KMDB 6TD-2 1200 hp diesel engine and French SESM ESM500 automatic transmission.
  • P4 – Prototype export variant incorporating German NATO standard 120 mm gun, Western fire-control system, German MTU-871/TCM AVDS-1790 diesel engine and Renk LSG-3000 automatic transmission.

ISLAMABAD: State-run companies of Pakistan and China today signed a contract for manufacturing the Al-Khalid-I tank, the latest version of the combat vehicle jointly developed by the two countries.

The Al-Khalid tank was developed in the 1990s and introduced in 2001.

The new version has improved capability and systems, an official statement said.

The contract for making the new tanks was signed by Pakistan's Heavy Industries Taxila and China'sNORINCO at the Ministry of Defence Production.

Contact signed in 2012 dec.. Produced in 2010???

Al-Khalid-1 was a prototype at that point. The agreement was about joint marketing of the vehicle.

How so ???

AK- is heavier.

What's the point of introducing Korean/European parts when the said reason behind going for this Tank instead of AK2 is lesser cost?

you know what, your moronic behaviour is a given, you have reading and comprehending issues. READ IT AGAIN, MBT 3000 is the evolution of MBT 2000 by NORINCO, Alkhalid is a customized Pakistani version made by HEAVY INDISTRY TAXILA PAKISTAN. Alkhalid1 and soon to be inducted Alkhalid 2 are exclusively made by HEAVY INDUSTRY TAXILA. Now go troll else where or i else.
Our discussion was not about mbt3000.. Topic was" whether al khalid 1 inducted or not??".. He said al khalid 1 was in production from 2010..

Initially AL Khalid was quite similar to MBT 2000 but we made several changes now its pretty much a different Tank

To replace some components of the tank doesn't makes it a different one. You still need to pay full licence fee.

We have answered this query before. The HIT's Al-Khalid is MUCH different from the MBT-2000 testbed. The AK-II is under development and the Army is pleased with its performance, therefore its production shall continue. The AKs are not suited to replace our Type-50/60 and 85XX standards of tanks as well as the Al-Zarrar upgrade in the long term. MBT-3000/VT-4 fits the bill for that particular role.

In the long term, Pakistan wants only 2 or 3 types of MBTs which must be built at home and must have a great degree of spare part similarities to make their operation and production cheaper. The VT-4 prototype if bought up would turn into a much different tank by the time it joins PA service. We expect a lot from our armor as we operate them in stringent desert heat and muddy terrains which is why we are seeking added HP/Tonne ratio. Adding a 1500HP powerpack to a 50< tonne MBT sounds silly till you get to see our deserts and plains in Punjab and Sindh where these tanks operate and are prepared to fight Indian armor. VT-4 will undergo extensive desert optimization at HIT and therefore would become a completely different beast once it hits the production line.

It's really silly to say PA want to induct VT-4 because the AK-II they are now developing is too expensive... You can always downgraded some parts of the tank to make it cheaper. Please bear in mind that it's definitely not an economic way to develop two different MBT simultaneously and induct both no matter what. No other country in the world have ever done that.
Besides, VT-4 won't come too cheap, it's the most advanced tank China has ever offered in the international market.

Al khalid are Vt 4 Are Different Tanks We cant Say they are same bcz of them are tanks well they are tanks but thing is they are different 1 is created and customized for Pakistani needs and 2nd made for keeping Chinese and international market in mind
Pak going for vt 4 is not the money problem but keeping future in mind in Future Al khalid will be the backbone of Pak Armour
So Just depending on 1 System Pak is getting 2 to 3 system which are different in a way but also similar so it wont be a night mare for maintenance and and linked to each other
Information is the next gens weapon check the benefits Vt 4 and al khalid are identical so spares wont be the problem crews can maintenance both of these tanks instead of dedicated to only 1 these thinks are small dont look so big but in war these are game changers the force which 1 is linked from soldier to hq , have more units available at all time and can move at minimal time pace will be the winner
@Horus @Zarvan @Armstrong @RAMPAGE
what you guys think

Question is why would PA need MBT 3000 why not make another western tank as next generation Al Haider Tank???

Why Al Khalid / AK I is not getting more sales ?

Also what about the Chinese tanks had the problem of rust, new MBT 3000 has the same problem ?

Also not to forget, Chinese smoke filled ENGINES are a definite no for Pakistan, isn't it? Will Al Haider have new engine ? what about stealth features on Al Haider ??
MBT-3000 IS Al-Haider for Pakistan.:haha::haha::haha:

Your article also backing my stand.. Al khalid 1 not inducted yet..

We have 300+ Al-Khalid tanks serving in our Army.
