Indonesia is hosting the largest peacekeeping training event of the year (2014) at the Indonesia Peace and Security Centre in Sentul.
The training event which started on 19 August has more than 800 participants from 21 nations. Dubbed as "Garuda Canti Dharma 2014", which means "Indonesia Serving for Peace", the event is planned to contribute towards regional peacekeeping operations and strengthening multinational cooperation among participating states.
While addressing the participants in his remarks, US Ambassador to Indonesia Robert O. Blake Jr. said that "the training you will receive here will be provided to participants will prepare you for the multitude of challenges you will encounter as peacekeepers on mission".
This international peacekeeping training event is hosted by Indonesia and sponsored by the US. It is designed to enhance the planning and operational skills of the Indonesian National Defence Forces and partner nations who are also participating in the drills.
General Dr. Moeldoko, Commander of the Indonesian Armed Forces, said that this joint exercise "will increase the interoperability between these nations and is designed to certify soldiers for future UN peacekeeping missions around the world".
The training event comprises of three main events: Senior Staff Training, Staff Officer Training and Field Training.
US Army Pacific commanding general General Vincent K. Brooks said that participating nations will have "closer relationships" after they proceed from the training exercises.
Pakistan Army has sent a contingent of troops to participate in the exercise, but no details could be acquired after the Inter-Services Public Relations was approached.
Besides Pakistan and the host Indonesia, the following countries are participating in Garuda Canti Dharma 2014: Australia, Bangladesh, Brazil, Cambodia, Canada, Germany, Indonesia, Japan, Jordan, Malaysia, Mongolia, Nepal, New Zealand, Philippines, South Africa, South Korea, Tanzania, Vietnam, Ukraine, US and the UN Headquarters.
