Pakistan Army Major Arrested in NY Bomb Plot!!

WASHINGTON: A Pakistani army major has been arrested in connection with the failed bombing earlier this month in New York's Times Square, The Washington Post reported on Wednesday.

If the report, which quoted Pakistani law enforcement sources, is confirmed it would represent the first time someone in Pakistan's military establishment has been implicated in the botched car bombing plot.

Chief suspect Faisal Shahzad, a Pakistani-born US citizen whose father was a senior official in Pakistan's air force, made his first court appearance on Tuesday in New York and did not enter a plea over the May 1 incident.

Shahzad, 30, was arrested apparently trying to flee the country on a flight to Dubai 53 hours after street vendors alerted police to smoke coming out of the vehicle in New York's theater district on a busy Saturday night.

The Washington Post said the extent of the Pakistani major's alleged involvement remained unclear, but that unnamed law enforcement sources told the paper he had met Shahzad in Islamabad and had cell phone contact with him.

According to the newspaper a second suspect being held by the Pakistani authorities acted as a liaison between Shahzad and the Pakistani Taliban —blamed by the US for being behind the attempted Times Square attack.

Pakistani law enforcement sources told the paper Shahzad met the suspect three times last summer and at one meeting gave him an undisclosed sum of money for the attempted bombings. Unnamed US officials told the newspaper the amount was 15,000 dollars.

US officials say Shahzad is connected to Pakistani Taliban insurgents and President Barack Obama sent two senior national security aides this week to Islamabad to join the investigation.

Federal agents last week also arrested three Pakistani men in the northeastern United States and said they were suspected of funneling money to Shahzad. However, they were not charged with terrorism.—AFP

Inter Services Public Relations has denied any arrest for terrorism case.Also Shahzad was son of an Air Marshal so is it really surprising that he had links within the military.Just because Major had contact with Shahzad does not mean Major was involved in this plot.Such a piss poor job honestly i think its one man job only.If he was trained the bomb would actually blow.

There can be always be innocent reasons found for every suspicious activity. However a trend of suspicious activities that go beyond the boundaries of random probability leads to circumstantial evidence. In case of certain elements of Pakistani Army, thats what is coming to fore. And not really surprising since Pakistani Army has been involved with cultivating fundamentalist insurgents since 1980s if not before. Some amount of ideology leakage is inevitable..

If it is true that an Army Major (of any country) helped Shahzad, then he wouldn't have done such a poor job of making the crudest of bombs.

USA is using this incident as a pretext to link the Taliban with Al-Qaeda, which is a load of bull.

Taliban poses zero threat to the USA, and its having a tough time justify the thousands killed in predator airstrikes.

1) The news is from a Pakistani newspaper.

2) The general was detained in Pakistan by Pakistani authorities. I'm sure they wouldn't arrest an Army Major without any reason/proof.

3) Nowhere does the article call him a terrorist. It just mentioned that the link is being investigated.

Pakistan Army Major Adnan is Second Arrest in NYC Bomb Plot

May 19 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Officials have told NBC New York that a second arrest has been made in the New York City Times Square bombing attempt. According to the report, Pakistani Army Major Adnan allegedly spoke with Faisal Shahzad, the suspect who was arrested in the cased, and personally met Shahzad in Islamabad in the months before the bomb plot, which thankfully failed. The officials would not disclose the nature of the meeting between the two. Shahzad has provided valuable information in the case after being arrested on board a plane to Dubai.

Adnan was said to have been arrested at his home, which is located in Rawalpindi, Pakistan. He was relieved of duty in the Pakistani Military two months ago, according to Pakistan officials. It would be the first time that anyone who was involved with Pakistani Military had ever been a part of the attempted attack.

Although Pakistani officials are the ones who made the initial report, it is now being denied in a statement to the media from Pakistan Army’s Inter-Services Public Relations. Instead they claim the the officer was actually Signal Corps Major Adnan and was sacked and arrested on charges of subordination which was unrelated to the NYC bomb plot.

They are trying to link this American national in every way they can to Pakistan. Why did the idiots give them citizenship in the first place. And the bomb conveniently failed to blow.

I feel this is an attempt to get more concessions from Pakistan which has already given too many. The Talibani traitors no doubt should be hunted down but the manner of this war and kowtowing to the Americans must end. The relationship with the backstabbers we have as allies has to end completely.
