Pakistan Army chief Bajwa’s term likely to be extended

COAS is not elected. Get your comparisons right.
Even in u.s their army chief is not given extension on such basis.I have given example of trump because u.s is democracy and trump has to take decisions regarding duch matters but in Pakistan we are showing too much dependency on coas and not p.m ik

Army had created Bajwa. It has more such brilliant sons. They have leadership in abundance. Kiyani was better than Musharaf, Raheel was better than Kiyani and Bajwa is Better than Raheel so there is someone better waiting inline. PMIK must let the process happening.

Due to on going Afghan talk, Pak side wants to keep Bajwa 2020. A very crucial dialogues are supervising by army chief. Where in such type of situation, COAS usually get extension. Some media outlet claim that suggestion came from Pentagon.

You take please....

one year extension not matters much but coas should have moral courage to decline such offer like what Raheel Shareef did to strengthen institution.u.s has been in dialogue with taliban from many years and I not think these dialogue will end in one year as afghan taliban have not total control on militants and many groups will continue to fight for longtime so it is better ik appoints next coas this week so gen bajwa give him complete briefing of matter in 6 months and he will not take much time to settle

First of all, constitution permits the extension of COAS tenure hence, there is no harm if done so. COAS General Bajwa has done a great job and there are lot of merits for him, if extended with service to serve more.

As per the norms & practice; extension is not sought nor mostly availed.

Furthermore, the COAS does not work alone in individual capacity but there is always a team of most senior Generals/next in line for promotion mostly; works along with current COAS.

Every COAS does know that he has to leave on retirement and one cannot predict the coming day hence, everything is planned accordingly.

COAS retirement wouldn't affect much as it is the system that runs properly per SOPs and upcoming Chief already knows the most about current situations at hand. Institute is important and creates Chiefs.

The political thugs, is the only lot which will cry sky high upon extension and will try to score as much as points they can as most of them doesn't have anything to offer.

I personally, don't see that happening and COAS may retire in routine.

Per recent claim by Rauf Kalasra , extension file already reached Alvi table.

I heard Rauf. He does make a valid case for a Deputy Chief position. And I see a lot of maerit in that system. The recent appointment of COAS to economic and development councils (I forget the names) also increasing need for him to stay involved in foreign policy measures does account for a deputy chief post to be made which can cater to day to day leadership matters of the army. Lets see what the powers that hold decide what is best for the country. However, I have no doubts that whatever the system decides, it will be the best decision for Pakistan. We finally have good leadership on both the fronts.

Current regional situation, hostilities & then updates does favour extension if done so. As said, there is no harm nor any illegality for doing so. The things on active front are too serious. That is why Constitution permits extension under circumstances as such.

Lahore:Pakistan’s Army chief, Gen. Qamar Javed Bajwa is likely to get extension in his term, reports said.

According to a report in Pakistan Today, its Editor Arif Nizami, commenting on the US visit of Prime Minister Imran Khan, said that while all the foreign visits are considered successful irrespective of the desired results, Imran Khan’s trip to Washington was successful from all angles and Bajwa’s presence in it was crucial.

Expecting term extension for the army chief, he said: “Currently, the relation between the government and the Army are good, which was not the case during PML-N (Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz) regime. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, during his tenures, changed the Army Chief six times. Apart from this, General Bajwa is also crucial for the US as it is seeking his help to exit Afghanistan without further loss.”

“Looking at this prospect, we can expect term extension for General Bajwa, though we can’t really guess for how long.”

Nizami also said that Bajwa, who took over as the army chief in November 2016, is different from previous ones as he doesn’t likes publicity, while being known as an “intelligent general with leadership quality”.

Economics council is good step Army bitten by Dar over economics so for Govt it was good to take them on board so they know what's going on no harm I see in it.

Naya Pakistan banany ky leye Bajwa sb ka power main rahna bht zaruri hai. :agree:

Warna to sara kaam thuss ho gye ga. :-)

I think one year extension must be offered.
