What's new

Pakistan Army acquires Eurocopter Fennec

No,Dhruv is multi role chopper with more capacity for passengers and is also armed while jetranger is only a recon chopper.

Bro I was asking if Eurocopter Fennec AS550 U2 which we acquired recently is comparable to dhruv?-

Just think of them as a jetranger with a revd up engine,FLIR and a little offensive capabilities other than that they are same and no way comparable with a multi role, larger and more capable Dhruv.
Comparing both would be like comparing an F-16 to K-8.

Reasonable update but a light helicopter would be good to test out its capabilities

20+6 copters is a good start for much needed capabilities

Extra capacity to carry passengers is low mere two passengers apart form 2 crew members but the passengers could be 2 soldiers armed if needed or it can pick up 2 soldiers for rescue or 2 civilians

If we look at Pakistan's need from 4 tier prespective

Tier 1 Harbin Z-9 (Anti Sub) low quantities , may be Turkish or Chinese attack helis, Mi-28

Tier 2 Cobra Gun Ship , Mi-35 (Expected Arrival)

Tier 3 Bell , Euro Copter Fennec, Mi-19 (Good Tier 3 addition)

Tier 4 The old stuff we have licence to repair and build

The Hecliopters (Russian Heli copters & Now this )would certainly make Tier 2 / Tier 3 area more solid

Well I thought jetranger might be some sort of old lightweight multipurpose military copter since the new one is- I couldnt find it in PAF inventory wiki page-

Btw is it comparable to Indian dhruv?-

Dhruv is not armed

also this is a reliable platform with no crash record, if i'm not mistaken

Interesting, that the FLIR pod is at the top of the fuselage frame and not at the bottom....could it be to shield it from ground fire?
