Islamabad, Jul 29 (ANI): A Chinese defence delegation will soon visit Pakistan to showcase their country's Airborne Warning and Control System (AWACS) following Islamabad's recent announcement to purchase a similar system from Swedish arms major Saab AB.

Pakistan recently concluded a 1.14 billion dollar deal with Swedish aerospace and defence company Saab AB for the AWACS in a bid to enhance its air space security and counter Indian's Phalcons airborne warning system, reports the Daily Times.

Pakistan currently relies on ground based radars for its security and security officials had said the country needed a surveillance device to ensure the security of its borders and underwater communication system.

They said AWACS were the most cost effective and powerful system for early warning, and command and control missions and together with the existing ground-based RADARS, will provide a more detailed picture, enabling Pakistan to detect different threats to the country.

The SAAB-Ericsson Airborne Warning and Control System (AWACS) deal with Pakistan was first announced in October 2005, and includes a Saab 2000 turboprop jet equipped with airborne radars from Ericsson Microwave Systems.

Pakistan had made the choice between Saab's Erieye and Boeing's 737 AEWS and settled for the former because of the latter's prohibitive cost. (ANI)

this is good news but we should not drop the saab ericsson airborne warning syestems(AWACS) of course we should also take the chinese(AWACS) in to consideration but saab (AWACS) sould be purchesed no matter what.

.
There are internet reports that a dish AWACS is seen on the military part of Chaklala. Just check keymags and the Pakistan topic in the airforce section.

pakistan is already going to invest about 1.1 millions on 8 western AWACs. I don't think they need more. if so, they must reduce the number of western AWACs.
what kind of Chinese AWAC will they choose?. Y-8/9(Chinese copy of the Russian An-12 Cub)? are they superior to Erieye?

. .
Its not feasible to have two platforms, this doesn't make sence.

.
It is. One cannot trust one side and specially if the history showed good weather friendship. These planes will be probably tested for the navy where in the past Hawkey was offered for. I don't think they are very expensive and this way there is a ateady flow of spare parts and the planes can be interlinked with J10 and Jf17. Just like Erieye will be interlinked with F16MLU and block52+. It is Pakistani idea not to put all eggs in the western basket. And now with Gwadar and Chinese navy location overthere it will be a predicted move to set a Chinese Awacs there. Special if foreign powers are starting terror in Baluchistan...

.
china has 3 kinds of AWACS:

KJ-2000 AWACS - IAI Phalcon-style electronically steered phased-array(ESA)

Y-8 AEW - conventional E-2C Hawkeye-style rotodome

y-8 "Balance Beam”AEW - ERIEYE-style electronically steered phased-array(ESA)

Still think that running two platforms is way too ambitious with our resources.
Our Naval Air Arm is too small, we need to invest in atleast two combat squadrons to justify a dedicated Navy Awa&cs platform.

Can P-3C be interlinked to the Y-8?

.
btw i am surprised china got all the different types of AWACS in the world... lol

I hope you do remember that JF17 will be armed with C802. There are pictures of that. And besides that how many nations do have 10 Orions with latest Harpoons? I think that it is realistic.

(just recently i heard the f-16 was off)
IMO... the future pakistani air-forces will mostly consist of fc-1, and j-10.... if thats the case then pakistan might as well just go for the chinese made AWACS since it will be compatable with chinese planes and precision weapons like ASM...

.
Erieye is perfect fotr high tech in mountains but Dish AWACS will do fine above sea. I think that F16 is just a temporary plane. ASAP JF17 will be matured and Fc20 will move beyond block52. Pakistn needs technology input at the moment and block52 _ Erieye are the best shot now. Long term solution is 100% chinese/Pakistani planes.

That makes sence, China will remain our largest arms supplier and I consider this F-16 order to be the last major one to go to the west.
