is paksitan really gettign these old f16 for less than 25 million usd ?

New F16's costs us 80+ millions.for 18 C,D's we paid 1.5B$. I also don't understand why they still want more F16's. may be becasue of PAF's love affair with F16. Don't know when they will wake up.
J10 and fifth gen fighter is what PAF should be looking at rather spending more on 4th gen fighters., i think they should have gone for something 5th gen from china.

PAF is using F-16s for quite some time now and considering the experience we gained and also from other jets such as mirages and their overhauling done in Pakistan, the manufacturing of JF-17......my question is how likely the chances are for Pakistan to be able to produce spares on its own even if not all? The reason i am asking this question is because PAF was able to keep its F-16 fleet alive even when it was sanctioned and not only that but F-16 remained our main stray fighter all this time.

Wait some time F16 soon become our second best as per our ACM comments and 100 F16 will be good in our PAF so can have some good 2nd line fighers. J10 need more time that is why Pakistan adopt two way policy one increase JF17 and other get some f16 and soon they will have J10 and my idea is that they will have it on 2014 and we have 3 year to wait and means 365 * 3= 1095 days

Now tell me should we wait or go for some other resources ?

For long term airworthiness of a plane type, the key weakness continues to be metallurgical support for fabrication. Witness the Mirages and Pakistan's inability to find replacement structural elements, despite having great expertise for the rest of the plane, excluding engine technology. Even with engines, updating is possible if one can modify airframe components. Avionics and ordnance upgrades are much easier by comparison.

i know some might disagree but a total no of 100 aprox f16 in inventory + jf17 constantly being up graded and fc20 on the way i dont think there ll be any need to worry our low end fighter ll be better then many heigh end fighters other countrys have plus with that many f16 we ll have an amazing strike pakage for air to ground while fc20 ll cover the skys me think a heigher no of f16 is good for us

Invest the money into JF-17 or J-10B.

United states has monopolised the Pakistan Air Force.

lol....well man tell ya what with all these people owwing and aawing on this, i dont understand whats gone wrong with this? PAF has outlined 100 Falcons for its requirements. Falcon is a proven aircraft and PAF has extensive experience with it. Investing in other 4G platform will require about a billion of $$$ at least for development only, and you're talking like its a child's play. grow up, everyone who's yelling at this decision kindly let me know from where you would get a proven platform like falcon and that too without strings. Falcon will the Strike Platform for PAF so dont confuse Falcon with Thunder which will be an interceptor and CAS aircraft. PAF knows what it is doing and i guess ACM is far more foresighted than most of the fan boys here

J-10B is still few years away

we need 100 f-16 and then full stop after that

we have much experiance with F-16..

100 f-16,250 JFT,about 150 J-10B til 2020.

this is more then enough for us.

5th gen only in small number

I have and other senior members have said this before... that PAF always wanted to maintian a fleet of 100 vipers and yes then plan will stop for getting more after that hence, we will be moving along with the thunders and fc-20's PAF is well on its way to be even a more lethal force then it already is just watch and see and the haters keep hating

There is nothing wrong with buying more f-16s, up to the often mentioned number of 100. Unlike in the 1980s, the PAF does not see the f-16 as the future of the airforce. With the the eventual induction of second block jf-17s and the fc-20s, the importance of f-16s will decrease and were they to be sanctioned, it would not have the same impact as it did before. The risk of possible sanctions is more than offset by their superior strike capability in comparison to our other fighters. Also, its possible, a few of these f-16s might be used ones, which will cost way less.

But dear The J-10 still seems to have 2-3 years before induction starts and the fifth generation plane for our needs is nowhere in sight. What about the the time in between?
Do we have any good option else than f-16 for now. When we have the J-10, they shall be the best we shall have and no more f-16.

I think its the cost of training and adapting to new planes , it takes 5-6 years to develop a fully capable training program for new plane

a) Ground crew training
b) Pilot training
c) Advance pilot training

Perhaps F16 + JF17 thunder and J10-B is a very solid no none sense strategy

But we do need to keep moving forward

Having 43 JF17 by end of year would be a welcomed boost for Confidence for Pakistan Air force no doubt

And together with the High Altitude missiles it would be ideal upgrade

Pakistan needs to acquire additional F-16s, JF-17s and J-10s, plus Pakistan Navy needs to have its own Air Wing.
