Pakistan, Afghanistan deploy tanks as fencing dispute escalates

Why do say that? Personally Pakistan is of course militarily stronger but a military conflict will make the Kabul regime further reliant on Western arms to survive. One can expect a US intervention (probably of a diplomatic nature) to maintain a 'status quo ante bellum' once things start going really badly for the Afghanistan army, and subsequently the US will maintain a permanent presence in the nation for the foreseeable future, making the current regime even more of a US vassal state than it already is.

Dude we can take half of afghanisan in a day

Why we are negotiating even just start putting wires on if they stop you by hand put ALKHALID gun into that ANA commander mouth
Emotional actions wont work on any side. There cannot be a war and should not be. Fencing is important to stop crossing over of terrorists on both sides. If Afghanistan wants peace and is asking us to stop terrorists from crossing over then why Afghanistan has any objection?

The closure of the border is hurting trade on both sides if Afghanistan does not want a fence then Pakistan should closed border for two years and no Afghan should be allowed to enter Pakistan. They are not our headache. Go to West/EU/Iran/India. Please do not bother us anymore.

Is the terrain fit for the deployment of tanks? Anyway Afghanistan does not accept the border with Pakistan as the official border which is more than half the cause of the entire problem. They are living during Durrani empire times when Pakistan and Afghanistan was one.

LANDI KOTAL: Tension further heightened between Pakistan and Afghanistan on Thursday and the two countries deployed tanks and armoured personnel carriers along the tense Torkham border besides sending more troops after their negotiating teams failed to resolve the border fencing dispute, political administration sources told Dawn.

The two countries have locked horns over the issue of fencing of some points at the border.

Defending Pakistani citizens is THE NATURAL right for the Pakistani Army and her Political Leadership. That should be the National Security goal number 1, like it is elsewhere. So this fence needs to be done, otherwise, the terrorists will continue to come from Afghanistan and leave Pakistani civilian men, women and children dead!!! We've seen this recently many times over.

So let's use some force, pre-emptive strikes......take out the Tanks and weaken your future enemy. Afghanistan, sooner or later will have a war with Pakistan due to Indian support. India is growing her economy so they don't want war and eventually getting out of control. So they'll now use Afghanistan for it as Afghanistan has nothing to show for itself. And they'll do anything for money like they have been killing Pakistani Children and young men and women in schools and parks and public places.
So taking out these "tanks" and other weapons now, will only benefit Pakistan in the long run. If they continue to act stupid, you should still fence it, or even mine the border on your side. F**k the terrorists and their supporters, Pakistan needs peace, stability and high growth in her economy. This terrorism crap can remain in its birth place called Afghanistan!!

Don't be so quick. Just because the comments aren't to your liking doesn't mean that we should close it down. These are the true sentiments of the majority of Pakistanis. Educate yourself and do something about it.

You are trolling me mate, won't get into that trap :)

The border will open, there will be no war, and it will be business as usual, Afghans blaming Pakistanis, and Pakistanis blaming Afghans and the rest of the world would still consider us the hotbed of terror breading factory.

You live in Netherlands, tell me the truth, how do you people on the airport treat you when they see your Pakistani or Afghan passport? Bravado aside we are both a 3rd world country.

What makes you think that Afghan-Pashtuns are less of sportsman than Pakistani Pashtuns?. In football FIFA rankings, Afghanistan is far ahead of both Pakistan and India. And the progress Afghanistan cricket team has made in short time, is astonishing. We are talking about a country , which is ruins and is war-torn since four decades.

And in Pakistan power resides with Prime Minister, not with President, and there never has been a Pashtun PM in Pakistan. The percentage of Pashtuns in army is also exaggerated by many. Pashtuns are 14.3% of army according to ISPR, even less than Sindhis who are 18%.

More correct figures are at least 25% of the army pashtun and Ayub Khan, Yahya Khan and Niazi were all pashtuns. Ayub Khan was a Tareen pashtun and he ruled the nation.

Stephen P Cohen concurs and has, being a typical American even declared that Pakistan hires soldiers from Taliban sympathetic areas in his hatred for Pashtuns. This is proof:

Yet the estimation of two leading experts on the Pakistani army, namely Stephen P. Cohen of the Brookings Institution and Professor Hasan Askari Rizvi of Pakistan, indicates roughly that the Pashtun representation in the army is between 15-22% among officers and between 20-25% among the regular rank-and-file. However, Pashtuns from the NWFP, the third largest province out of four, and tribal areas together comprise only 16% of the country's overall population.

Regardless what are you trying to prove here? That pashtuns in Pakistan are marginalized and Pashtuns in Afghanistan developed. Then why does Afghanistan not have any culture, music, movies and the hub for all this activity is Peshawar or to a lesser extent Karachi.

The reality is Pashtuns in Pakistan are doing far better and though Afghans ignored the Pakistani pashtuns for years as slaves of the british even though Pashtuns fought several insurrections against British rule, they are now far more advanced in every field. Now they want the Pashtun lands back as theirs when they are far more advanced.

This issue is purely instigated by the Afghans. They don't want to fence the border, they don't want to stop the illegal movement of Afghan nationals to Pakistan and they don't accept the Durand line. They are causing the problems otherwise there are no problems.

Think of it however you like. I'm simply starting the facts.

The border won't open. Why are you so desperate for the border to open? Remember, you people love the Indians so go to India. Use their hospitals. Stop coming here. We the Pakistanis are your enemy as you so blatantly and proudly like to pronounce to the entire world. There is no reason for you stay in Pakistan.

There is no problem at all with the Pakistani passport. Speak for your own country. Afghans like to obtain the Pakistani passport. As yourself why... It is because you like to travel abroad with our passport. If we are such a third world nation, stop using our passports and stop coming to our country.

I sympathize with your efforts to build unity among Pakistan and Afghanistan but wouldn't it be wise for Afghanistan to accept the Durrand line once and for all or if not offer an equal partnership or federation with Pakistan uniting Afghanistan and Pakistan as one.

Currently I and many other Pakistanis see Afghanistan as a source of instability for Pakistan. Perhaps Afghans see Pakistan as the same but we have valid reasons to be afraid.

India has built a fence along the LOC, if say Afghanistan was to build one on it's side, i doubt Pakistan would have objected so Pakistan has every right to exercise it's policy within it's own border. As for the threat of tanks, well, this is how the PAF believes giving a warm reception.

Did PAF really destroyed their tank? and when?

Pashtuns are spread all over Pakistan. Their biggest city is Karachi. Only an idiot will think Pashtuns are good in Afghanistan than Pakistan. Those Pashtuns at least have an province, we Muhajirs don't even have an province, forget about it, we even don't control Karachi, no local body elections, you know. Pashtuns are also in large numbers in army as compare to Muhajirs.......

This is not a justification. Each and every nation has its own grievances. What i know is Pashtuns are loyal to Pakistan, integrated well in society. Har naam k akhir me tou khan araha hota hai yahan pe......
