Pak sends junior officials to Saarc meeting in Delhi, tries to snub India
Rajesh Ahuja, Hindustan Times, New Delhi | Updated: Sep 22, 2016 12:37 IST
Pakistan sent junior officials to a Saarc meeting in Delhi on Thursday in an apparent bid to lower the event’s profile amid mounting tensions between the two nations following a militant attack on an army camp in Kashmir.

Sources said Pakistan decided against sending any senior diplomats from Islamabad to Delhi and chose counselor-level officers to the two-day meeting of a high-level expert group to strengthen counter-terror mechanism in the region.

The snub came as India tries to diplomatically isolate Pakistan at global fora following amilitant attack on an army base in Kashmir’s Uri town. India says the attackers were from Pakistan, a charge flatly denied by Islamabad.

Intelligence Bureau chief Dineshwar Sharma is presiding over the meeting of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation that comprises India, Pakistan, Nepal, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Maldives.

A home ministry statement said other than Pakistan, all nations sent top diplomats to the meeting. Pakistan was supposed to be represented at the level of chief of its intelligence bureau, Sharma’ counterpart, but Pakistan informed that it has nominated two officials from the high commission to attend the meet.

“The meeting will review the functioning of the existing anti-terrorism mechanisms in the region including the Saarc Terrorist Offences Monitoring Desk (STOMD) and the Saarc Drug Offences Monitoring Desk (SDOMD), intelligence sharing and police cooperation,” said the home ministry statement.

India has called Pakistan a “terrorist” state that funds extremism across the region, in a stinging reply to Pakistani prime minister’s speech at the United Nations general assembly. The two countries are expected to face off several times in the 193-nation event.

Why even send counselor-level officers to the destabilized and terror sponsor land of India which kills innocents? India is a place highly unstable now to even go to.
don't worry bro, even with all the unrest in Kashmir,I won't say Kashmir but few pockets near Srinagar with sunni majority.you are safer in srinagar than any part of Pakistan .

Thanks for accepting the bitter reality. So better stop crying.
Saarc is a useless organization.
