Pak Issues Permanent Arrest Warrant on Musharraf

A Pakistani anti-terrorism court today issued a permanent non-bailable arrest warrant for former President Pervez Musharraf for failing to cooperate with investigators probing the 2007 assassination of ex-premier Benazir Bhutto.

Prosecutors from the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) told Judge Rana Nisar Ahmed of the Rawalpindi-based anti-terrorism court that Musharraf had not appeared in court even after being issued summons and declared a "proclaimed offender" or fugitive.

They asked the court to issue a permanent arrest warrant.

Taking note of this, the judge issued a fresh and permanent non-bailable arrest warrant for Musharraf, currently living in self-exile outside Pakistan.

The prosecutors also asked the court to issue orders to confiscate Musharraf's movable and immovable property.

The judge directed authorities to submit details of his assets at the next hearing and adjourned the case for two weeks.

The court withdrew a contempt of court notice it had issued to FIA Director General Malik Muhammad Iqbal for not following judicial directives after he apologised to the judge.

The trial of five suspects, including a would-be suicide bomber, on charges of involvement in former premier Bhutto's killing has been held up for several months due to Musharraf's refusal to cooperate with investigators.

The anti-terrorism court had earlier issued an arrest warrant for Musharraf in February after investigators declared him an "absconder" and told the judge that the former military ruler was not cooperating in the probe.

Investigators have alleged that Musharraf's regime had failed to provide adequate security to Bhutto after she returned to Pakistan from self-exile in 2007.

Bhutto was killed by a suicide bomber after she had addressed an election rally in Rawalpindi in December the same year.

"An anti-terrorism court issued permanent arrest warrants for former president Musharraf.

Anti-Terrorism Court Judge Rana Nisar Ahmed Khan resumed the hearing of Benazir assassination case in Adiala Jail on Saturday.

Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Director General Malik Iqbal and Investigation Officer Khalid Rasool presented a report about the advertisements, which were published to ensure Musharraf’s appearance in the court.

Later, the court sought details of Musharraf’s moveable and immoveable assets after the FIA prosecutors pleaded for the court orders to confiscate his property. The case has been adjourned until June 25.

Talking to the media, FIA prosecutor Chaudhry Zulfiqar said that proceedings against Musharraf would also be held under section 88 while he would also be separated from the other accused who would be indicted in the next hearing."

I seriously doubt the GOP will execute the warrant, more of a cosmetic step. In last 10 year I have seen two former prime minister and one president living in exile.

. . . .
now lets wait till elections and then issue a arrest warrant for zardari and gilani

sure why not now???, i doubt this judiciary is neutral since every now and then we hear corruption news in the newspaper related to zerdari, its just a retribution of wht musharraf did, not tht judiciary is neutral, there is no investigation of murder case and i dont know if they even have required proves

Pakistan's joke court aka the anti terrorism court has once again failed. Instead arresting, trying, jailing people who have been killing Pakistanis they let them go free and then try to focus their energies on making scapegoats out of people

.
One thing i noticed, everyone hates Zardari and Gilani on this forum.

its not only on this forum dude, i think that whole Pakistan hates zardari

More noora kushti of a different kind.

Should I remind Zardari sahab's words "Tell the most powerful man in the world (US President) there is no way I would go back on what I have said," (US had asked Zardari not to humiliate Musharraf: WikiLeaks - Hindustan Times). If these people spent as much time running the country than lying to the country we might not have been in this mess the first place.
