ISLAMABAD: Following large-scale sparking of protests across the country, Pakistani government has completed necessary arrangements for continuing NATO supplies to the foreign troops in Afghanistan via Chaman border and airways.

Reviewing the current paths assigned for NATO supplies, Pakistan’s federal government decided approving alternatives of supply lines which include the Pak-Afghan border at Chaman while using flight paths is also under consideration, sources said.

According to sources, the government is currently struggling to resolve the issue through political consensus but constitutional step would be taken in case of unsuccessfulness.

The federal government provided the stance that current situations blocked all ways for NATO supply which could cause damage in relations with US government as well as increase the financial problems of Pakistan.

The financial issues would be created in result to the deteriorated relationship with US and its partners and at least $1.2 billion will be seized or delayed from the coalition support funds.

The blockage will also affect strategic dialogues between both countries which was established under Kerry Lugar Bill signed during tenure of former President Asif Ali Zardari.

It should be mentioned that the Pakistani government had signed ground-line communication agreement for the NATO supplies continuation in 2012 and the render paths came under supervision of the federal government.

However, Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N)-led government has decided for avoiding any strict action against the NATO supply closure till yet and continuously trying to solve the matter in political way.

Large-scale protests sparked across the country after the last US drone attack in Hangu on a Islamic school, Madarrasa, situated in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) province.

Moreover, a prominent politico-religious party, Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), organised protests against US drone strikes and continuation of NATO supplies via public march in Karachi on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) also paying sit-ins on different spots in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, major supply route for foreign troops in Afghanistan, today from where NATO supply containers went off to Afghanistan.
