Don't even have to look at Turkey. Look closer to home at K-Electric (previously KESC) and PTCL. People growing up in the 80s and 90s will attest to the fact how garbage these two institutes were, but ever since privatization these companies have really skyrocketed. There is a marked improvement in their performance and have managed to turn losses into profits. Obviously there is still margin for growth and improvement.

People who are opposed to the idea of privatization probably do so because they know they won't get jobs or freebies due to connections in these private companies now.

Agreed especially on PTCL (cant vouch for K-Electric as I have never lived in Karachi but I have heard good things about them in recent times). As for the people who oppose privatization of failed state companies, whilst many are as you say people who either directly or indirectly getting "freebies", others genuinely believe in the skewed idea that a state privatizing companies is a sign of incompetence and failure. Its the same mindset as those who refuse to accept a devaluing of the rupee because a strong rupee "shows strength of the economy". Our exports are collapsing and our products becoming less competitive in the global market, but still we insist on keeping our currency strong (The PKR is even stronger than the Japanese Yen!).

Do You Know Units Privatized During First Tenure Of Nawaz Sharif 115 Units Were Privatized In A Year. The Government Has Yet To Receive The Money Of These Units. Many Cases Are Still Pending In Court.

Fair enough, but look at it from my point of view, these corporations privatized by nawaz or musharaf aren't costing taxpayer's millions in subsidies anymore like PIA, Steel mill and other plus now they have to pay taxes

Most crown corporations in Pakistan are full of political appointees or retired military personnel drawing two paychecks, once they are privatized even at a loss they no longer going to cost Taxpayers money every year.

Iqbal baba tab he sirf nojawano ko lift karaty the:D

Naujawan sun lete they unki baat.... ajkal kay naujawan kisi ki nahi sunte

Some of These Were Profit Making And Did Not Need Subsidies(Zealpak and MCB Were Profitable at The Time of Privatization)

After Privatization They Were Closed Down and There Real Estate Was Resold. This Resulted In Massive Unemployment

Just get rid of PIA.. Even if it's for $0... as long as the buying takes on all the liabilities... your can have it for free...

Get rid of it.

Same argument is being used to safe steel mill from privatization, while the thieves working their continue to steal millions/ month!

Zealpak was only profitable as long as it was monopoly, years of neglect and zero new investments meant outdated equipment and would probably require millions to bring it to par with the new cement plants

Zealpak 264 employees

Revenue IN PKR (TTM)332.22m

Net Income IN PKR-358.51m

I Am Not Against Privatization Man But The Thing Is Pakistan Has Suffered From Privatization Just As Much As It Had Suffered From Nationalization.

There Was No Planned Approach Behind It.It Should Have Been Part of A Wider Policy Liberalization of The Economy. It Was Not Resulting In The Creation of Cartels

And FTR Zealpak Was Not A Monopoly SCCP However Was One Which Had More Than Half A Dozen Cement Plants Under It.But The Cement Cartel That Was Created Afterward Was Just As Bad As The Monopoly of SCCP

Any public organization which is not maintaining the bench mark KPIs of industry segments should be privatized and it's employees should be sold as bounded labor.

And as long as Pakistani keep electing same tried and true thieves over and over again they will keep suffering

Imarn Niazi and Asif Ali Zardari may have objection, both of them were united agaisnt privatization of Pakistan Stell Mills and PIA.
As a result Pakistan have lost $billions thus far.
