Gift of Mushak planes to Arab states questioned

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s decision to give 34 Mushak aircraft worth millions of dollars as ‘gifts’ to three Muslim countries was questioned in the meeting of the National Assembly’ Public Accounts Committee (PAC) last week. The PAC was also told that Pakistan had suffered major losses in the sale of 25 Mushak aircraft to Iran when General Aslam Beg was army chief in 1989. Pakistan gifted 20 Mushak aircraft – manufactured at the Pakistan Aeronautical Complex (PAC) Kamra – to Saudi Arabia, eight to Oman and six to Syria, Air Marshal Khalid Chaudhry, recently appointed head of the PAC Kamra, told the committee. The PAC was meeting to review defence related spending after the auditor general of Pakistan submitted details of the losses suffered on account of the 1989 deal with Iran to the committee. According to the official record of the meeting, committee Chairman Riaz Fatiyana was at a loss to understand why the PAC Kamra, a commercial organisation funded from taxpayers’ money, was giving these aircraft away as gifts. “Are you gifting all these locally manufactured aircraft to foreign countries or earning some thing out of their sale as well?” Fatiyana asked Air Marshal Chaudhry. Chaudhry replied that Pakistan had recently sold Mushak aircraft to South Africa at a profit of $15,000 per plane. The PAC Kamra has also sold 55 Mushak aircraft to the Pakistan Navy and 125 to the Pakistan Army.

These planes are warming up sells. US does the same with F16's. India "sold" Druv to Nepal. By giving away prop planes one gets market share and probably more spin off. I say good marketing.

The information that i liked in this article was about the selling of 55 Mushak aircrafts to the Pakistan Navy and 125 aircrafts to the Pakistan Army. I am wondering why is the army using 125 aircrafts for and how many trainers would the air force have.

Army does not need it for training to get jet pilots but purely rec and transport. If you have hundreds of tanks and soldiers then you need some planes to control them. Nothing unusual. Airforce need them to get pilots ready towards jet planes...

For reconnaince (Military Aviation - artillery look) can possibly use them but as for the transportation of the troops using Mushak aircraft makes no sense. How many people would fit in? What two? and those two too should know how to fly the plane.

not bad... Didnt Pak export some Super Mushaks to Saudi Arabia a few years back?

KSA interested in Pakistan’s tanks, aircraft

ISLAMABAD: The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) has shown interest in purchasing defence equipment including Al-Khalid Tanks and Super Mushshak Aircraft from Pakistan, said a press release issued here on Monday.

KSA is also interested in purchasing border security equipment from Pakistan. A tem-member Saudi delegation, led by Lt General Talal Bin Mohsin Ali Al Angawi, voiced the kingdom’s interest to Defence Minister Rao Sikandar Iqbal.

Ok. Go ahead. How many F-16's India got as gift?

India "sold" Druv to Nepal.

I hope people understand the difference between selling and gifting.

Gifting that too at a time when Pakistan and it's people are still coming out of the disaster of earthquake. When Pakistan is urging for world aids and peace workers for the reconstruction and rehab of the earthquake area and people there.

Is Mushak a SAAB trainer? how old is it?

The Mushshak is indeed based on the SAAB basic trainer MF-15 Safari / MFI-17 Supporter which PAC started to build under licence from 1978.

Check the links for data specifics and pictures. :)

nice pics, i knew it was a SAAB trainer manufactured under licence a few years later when Sweden couldnt transfer the Viggen manufaturing plant to Pakistan due to the 1971 war.

Giving Super Mushak trainers at the time of disaster (BTW: its been more than a year) is nothing bad. Think more openly! The aircrafts are made locally and cheaply, and has nothing to do with the earth quake. You think PAC will donate? I dont think so. The aircrafts were already made, they are not making it.

Also the money will come back one way or the other.

That was just an opinion.

Pakistan has right to do whatever they wanna do.

34 aircraft as gifts? This is practically unheard of. This by any standards, is a scam & good that your oversight people are roasting those involved.
