Pak-China ties changing? Reality check!

But the ambassador makes a crucial observation: Pakistani leadership hasn't got the faintest clue or qualifications on how to run a country, let alone chart a course to becoming a powerhouse. The govt. basically muddles along on foreign aid and brute inertia.

As long as we have these self-serving, infighting, clueless feudals dominating the political field, it is illogical to expect that anything will change. Look at how these imbeciles still haven't managed to get Gwadar running and linked up to China.

Dear - Govt. didn't came from Mars, Those are also Pakistanis and Pakistanis have elected it, Nothing will change unless we as nation will not change our attitude. We don't respect laws, we encourage corrupt people by bribing them just to avoid in convinces, we try to utilize the influence of over relatives/friends to by pass systems. We bribe traffic warden to avoid tickets. We don't provide justice that's root cause these feudals/sardars/politicians can do whatever they want, poor people knows that they don't have any way other than obeying them. Believe me nothing will change unless we change ourselves.

I agree with you in latter part.
Nationalism is not passe, infact in Asia it is on rise. Look at Iran, India, China, Japan, Korea, Vietnam, Pakistan even Afghanistan, nationalism is definitely on rise.

Not just Asia, it's increasing even in the West. As the global economy worsens (I just saw in the news that US economic recovery is slowing down and there are fresh doubts about Europe), the atmosphere around the world will get very ugly.

This does not lead to the conclusion that we make peace with India on Indian terms.

I agree that capitulation on our core interests is not the answer. It will do ZERO to solve the systemic problems within Pakistan's leadership crisis. As long as the feudal rot festers, Pakistan will never attain its potential.

What you say is true and we have to find the causes and solutions. One issue is that evils like tax evasion, corruption, nepotism, etc. tend to trickle down. When the top officials do all these things, then the common man will do the same as much as he can get away with it. Conversely, if there is some semblance of law enforcement and proper governance, then people will abide by the laws.

As for electing these criminals, the entire political system is full of them. The main political parties are all dominated by them. What a ridiculous charade that the two main political parties are brazenly hereditary!

That is why I said that the only hope is to get someone like Imran Khan. Musharraf is also good, but he has too much baggage.

The author makes some good points but he comes across as being a little too alarmist with regard to the state of affairs between China and Pakistan. People in China are generally aware of a number of cases where Chinese nationals were kidnapped or shot in Pakistan. Nevertheless there is still tremendous goodwill toward Pakistan.
