Almost every marine vessel uses diesel rather than petrol. It is petrol that explodes, while diesel just burns.

It was not Fishermen.They wont try to outsmart ann armed Indian Coast Guard ship.

Poora Gutkha kala tha.. Indian Coast guards liked it and since they were running away not giving them enough they decided to put them down. We should demand an inquiry into this incident.

Naval ammunition could definitely cause the explosion, especially if it was old, wooden and rickety which it probably was. Almost nothing other than nitroglycerine explodes by itself. Spontaneous explosions are mostly Hollywood myth rather than reality. So the boat may have exploded either due to Coast Guard shelling, or due to deliberate action on part of those who were in the boat.
In the first case, then the Coast Guard screwed up. But since it was in the open ocean, why did then the GOI go through the trouble of crafting a press release? Nobody knew about it, so India could have just brushed the matter under the carpet.
Or else, in the second case, this was a suicide mission, and that's why its occupants blew themselves up.
