The 6th Session of the Pakistan-Azerbaijan Inter-Governmental Commission was held on 26-27th April, 2016 at Islamabad.
Defence and Security
The two Sides agreed to establish and enhance Defence Industrial cooperation between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.
A Joint Working Group of Ministry of Defence Industry of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Ministry of Defence Production of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan will be constituted for periodic meetings to discuss cooperation in the area of Defence Industries.
The two Sides will prepare / exchange a Draft MoU on the establishment of cooperation in the Military-Technical sphere between the Ministry of Defence Industry of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Ministry of Defence Production of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan in the following areas: -
In the sphere of defence industrial cooperation for manufacturing, production and sale of different type of military products.
In the sphere of science, research, design and development of the new military products, as well as implementation of joint R&D.

Pakistan Will Always Support Azerbaijan in All Conflicts At International Level: Rana Tanveer Hussain

Pakistan and Azerbaijan on Thursday decided to enhance defence cooperation. This understanding reached during a meeting Mr. Yavar Jamalov, of Azerbaijan’s Minister for Defence Industry and Rana Tanveer Hussain, Minister of Defence Production (MoDP). They exchanged views on matters of mutual interest and enhancing cooperation in defence production.
“Azerbaijan is a brotherly country. Pakistan will always support Azerbaijan in all conflicts at international level”, said Rana Tanveer Hussain.
Federal Minister also mentioned Azerbaijan needs to build up its defence capability because conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia is harsh reality. He also cleared that Pakistan is ready to transfer technology and joint ventures. Even a broad based agreement on joint defence production can be drafted between two countries.
Mr. Yavar Jamalov asked for designing special mechanism in order to avoid unnecessary delaying formalities of procurement between two countries. For this purpose focal persons from both ministries may be formed in order to speed up the process of procurement. He also showed interest in warhead technology. He also invited Minister to ADEX 2016 (Azerbaijan International Defence Exhibition).Vice versa invitation was also given to him for IDEAS 2016.
Pakistan was among the first countries to recognize Azerbaijan. Pakistan and Azerbaijan have military cooperation. Azerbaijan is the single country in the Caucasus region which is able to obtain the newest military technologies in defiance with international standards. Azerbaijan is ranked as 15th in the world list of highest arms import countries.
