As far as army/defence i wonder if the world ever had noticed that all US foreign policies are made, enforced/implemented by hook or by crook by Pentagon/ the military/defence orgs.

If that was the case US would still be in Iraq.

Widespread public opposition to Iraq war resulted in Republicans losing the house elections in 2006 and then losing Presidency to Obama by a huge margin in 2008.

All military contractor/suppliers wanted US to stay in Iraq for prolonged time.

but how is it democracy's fault?

You know it kind of is. In Pakistan feudalism is rife. Landmasses the size of cities are owned by feudal lords. The people contesting in elections are feudal lords. The people who live on these lands have to vote for their feudal lord, the people living around those lands are dependent on their livelihood upon those feudal lords and have to vote for them.

How will the people's choice ever come forward?

Democracy makes you kill yourself voluntarily. With military dictators people have a stronger guy than the feudal lord come in. If he's a good guy then he'll do something for the country. Feudal lords are confirmed not to do anything for the country because they want to continue their grips on to the populace.

This is the difference between democracy in Pakistan and elsewhere.

Of course, its also our fault. Out of an estimated 170Mn pop, we've 80 Mn people eligible to vote.

During elections there's only a turnout of 30 million, out of which 1.5 Million belong these rural areas and 1.5 from the cities/urban areas.

I think if more people only showed up at the polling booths, the results would be very different.

Then again voting booths also don't have a conducive environment. You never know when bombs would go off, you never know when political parties will start up fights, spray of bullets, mismanagement, polling taking hours longer than it should.

So, the enormity of the issues are huge. Don't just simply say that we don't want democracy, but democracy like everything else has its pre-requisites. A lot of people feel that there will be one military guy who will come and will be a decent person and take care of these pre-requisites and then transition towards true democracy.

I think retired generals of the Pakistan Army should start participating in General Elections, like how Musharraf is trying.

Wouldn't that defeat the concept of democracy and push it towards a dictatorship in civilian clothes?

B) THE PROBLEM is WHAT CONSTITUENCY will the retired military man stand from for elections? please don't tell me PINDI!

people like imran khan will never come into power because in places like karachi(mqm) interior sindh (PPP) or interior punjab (pml) he has no backers!

At a moment when Pakistan is battling some of the worst crises in its recorded history....with the Taliban and Afghan situation , natural disasters (Floods), economic breakdown.....the army is one institution which can stabilize all quarters....its internationally advantageous to have a civilian government in place but the power and traditional support base of the army should remain intact.....

something i have been seriously wondering, but still have no answer for:

Why is army help not counted as government help? i genuinely dont understand that. The army's goals are not just to defend against threats but also to help in relief operations. Thats true for ALL armies afaik. the army is the government's instrument for helping during relief operations.

When US army helped in Katrina no one saw it as government being inefficient and army taking charge. same case with all the countries hit by the tsunami. so it surprises me that in Pakistan the army is praised and civilian govt ridiculed, when the army is the tool of the government.
