PAF's technician dies as aircraft gun goes off

Someone screwed up big time something like this doesn't happen very often specially on a flight line which has Mirages on it. Mirage does have a problem when you shut down the fighter it throws out JP through its belly and the crew is always standing with a big bucket as you switch off.

Faulty jet gun kills one at PAF base

LAHORE: A Pakistan Air Force (PAF) technician was killed and five others were injured when a gun of a fighter jet went off accidentally at the PAF Masroor base in Karachi on Friday, a private TV channel reported. According to the PAF spokesman, the gun shot fires due to the short-circuiting in the jet when it was being overhauled and refuelled in a bunker.

Sad news... but sometimes things do go wrong may ALLAH bless his soul in peace ameen.

Very unfortunate, accidents do happen when handling live ammo. Journalists have a strange way of combining news, the second part is completely unrelated to the topic.

RIP.The same thing happened at USS Midway in Vietnam War when a Phantom F5 launched a missile while it was still on the ground due to short circuit.

rest in peace
I think his body would have been blown to bits even if only one bullet hit him. those projectiles are meant for obliterating planes and vehacles (while straffing) what chance does a human stand?

steps should be taken to avoid such incidents in future

Disabling The Weight On Wheels Switch | Air Safety Week | Find Articles at BNET
According to the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), maintenance performed by General Dynamics Aviation Services personnel in Palm Beach, Fla., failed to remove tongue depressors that were being used to disable the weighton-wheels (WOW) switch of a Gulfstream V on jacks. That practice led to a hard landing causing substantial damage to the airplane, according to the NTSB's final report of the Feb. 14, 2002, incident (NTSB identification number MIA02lA060). Shortly after departure, the pilot requested a return for landing because the landing gear would not retract. As the jet flared for landing and the crew pulled the power levers back to idle, the spoilers deployed because of the disabled WOW switch.
The weight-on-wheels (WoW) switch removes/enables electrical power on certain systems. Pitot heat is 'remove', meaning electrical power to the heater element in the pitot and angle-of-attack probes are removed the moment aircraft weight is fully on the landing gear. Pitot heat electrical power is enabled when weight is off wheels...

Cessna Mustang Review
pitot heat and other systems safe if mistakenly left on after landing, e.g., via an interlock with the weight on wheels sensor or a reduction in power when overheating (better yet: the Garmin knows when the airplane is flying because it turns the transponder on and off automatically and also runs a flight timer; the Garmin also knows the outside temperature because it displays it; why can't the Garmin system turn on the pitot heat if the airplane is flying and temps are below 10C?)
The system switch is essentially a heavy duty mechanical device NOT easily depressed by a person.

The WoW switch disables not only pitot heat, because we do not want to burn anyone's hands or head, but also prevent full radar transmit, because we do not want to accidentally radiate people on the ground, and remove weapons electrical power, because we do not want this sort of catastrophic events where people are shot. Either the aircraft was on jacks, therefore in a 'weight-off-wheels' condition, or the WoW circuit breaker was opened, creating the same 'weight-off-wheels' condition. For live weapons testing, it is usually better to have the aircraft fully weight-on-wheels BUT open the WoW CB, creating a 'weight-off-wheels' condition. For full radar transmit power, we can go either way since unlike gun recoil the radar does not create any physical motions throughout the aircraft.

So what happened?

Condolunces to the familes of those who are not with us this time but this is very very rare incident anyway what fighter jet it was i guess may be it was our old mirage
