PAF Reveals Bayraktar Akinci, TB-2, WL2 and Establishment of National ISR and Integrated Air Op Center in a Newly Released Video

Not that secrative - JF17 uses a realtime linux derivative - Tempest / F-35 use INTEGRITY-178 tuMP RTOS made by https://www.ghs.com/.

Very few countries in the world can write a brand new from scratch operating system and then build the ecosystem of tools around it - I don't think there has been a new one for a while now.

Tizen made between Samsung and Intel was the last one - and Google is attempting to a new one to replace Android/Chrome OS called fuchsia... and they have been at it for years and years.

I really dont think Turkey has built a from scratch operating system.

Good chance the TB2 O/S is a derivative of an open source Linux version...
When you get into the robotics related AI domain, you can't make it with exactly like what's "commercially" available ! You need to get into the "grey" domain, and it requires "out of the box" unique thoughts/imagination and the related custom-built implementation. Of course there're some bases to start working on...

The Pakistan Air Force has signed a contract to procure Turkey’s Bayraktar Akinci heavy High Altitude Long Endurance (HALE) unmanned combat aerial vehicle. The drone will be produced under license in Pakistan starting next year, alongside Bayraktar Anka-S UAVs, for which a Transfer of Technology program is under way. The Akinci is a twin-engine turboprop long-range HALE UCAV drone capable of a 27 hour endurance and a flight ceiling of a little over 40,000 feet and a range of 7,500 kilometers. The MTOW of the drone is 12,300 pounds, enabling it to carry a large number and variety of ATGMs, air to air missiles, air to ground precision munitions, cruise missiles, standoff weapons, and rockets on its eight hard points, with a total combat load of 2,976 lb (1,350 kg). Amongst the Akinci’s combat payload configurations, without a doubt, air-launched standoff range cruise missiles deserves the utmost attention. With a range of about over 600 kilometers, the Ra’ad ALCM & Akinci combination will provide Pakistani military planners with deep strike capabilities from unmanned platforms. In hostile airspaces, such a capacity can yield decisive strategic results, especially against high-value targets.
The Akinci also provides excellent Intelligence, Surveillance, Target Acquisition and Reconnaissance (ISTAR) capabilities with a variety of electrooptical payloads. An onboard avionic suite with a triple redundant avionic system encompasses units enabling a fully autonomous taxiing, take-off, landing and cruise. The Akinci drone is equipped with an active electronically scanned array (AESA) radar, a Synthetic Aperture Radar/Ground Moving Target Indicator (SAR/GMTI) radar, numerous electrooptical surveillance systems, electronic warfare systems, ECM systems, and a signal intelligence suite (SIGINT), and SATCOM allowing Akinci to become an ISTAR plus command, control and communications (C3) asset for the Pakistani military.
The Akinci has SATCOM capabilities as well as datalink. During wartime, the Akinci could survey large areas of land and detect enemy mechanized formations, air defence sites and troop concentrations either through its signals intelligence arsenal or the impressively long range of its EO/IR sensor, which would then be engaged at standoff ranges by a plethora of precision air to ground weapons. Adversary’s reconnaissance and attack drones will also be engaged with Akinci’s air to air missiles. The Akinci provides the PAF with a highly effective & combat proven unmanned ISTAR+C3+standoff strike platform, especially for penetrating air defences and conducting a variety of different missions, against both enemy air defence infrastructure and equipment and the integrated battle groups they are protecting.

The induction of these drones were firstly came last year since December finally integrated.

I hope we get more

The reality is that it's a slow moving and maneuvering UCAV with no stealth. It will get tracked very easily and there is a lot of time for enemy to scramble a jet to intercept it. Wars are not fought in vacuum. It's amazing the kind of stuff I read sometimes.

UCAVs are great when you can sneak in there with no aircraft. But when there are aircraft, it's in trouble.

It's a lot easier for air defense to detect a large gunship looking UAV vs a small UCAV that only carries a few AGMs.

How come the Russians aren’t able to track the slower moving TB-2s being used by the Ukrainians? Their AD systems and armor are being obliterated and footage being shared worldwide.

TB2s have a self protection EW/jamming envelope, which is perfectly matched with its flight envelop, built around it. Couple it with the land based EW capabilities.....

Disbelieve in TB2s, and you're dead....

Keep in mind that my comment was about Akinci. It actually is harder to track TB-2, because it is smaller (far lower RCS than Akinci) and flies lower. A lot of your standard ground radar will have a harder time to track this type of UAVs. You can see that Russians are also having similar success against Ukrainian positions now. So, the question is why Russians can't find it. The reasons are pretty simple.

1) They don't have high quality AWACS that are performing ISR continuously. If you don't have a modern AWACS, then obviously small, low flying UCAVs can sneak by. The Russians don't have a modern capable Air Force.
2) Their fighter jet/strike aircraft are not making enough quality sorties to protect their armor and AD systems. The Russians are afraid to send fighter jet in to any area that might get attacked by Ukrainian SAM. Again, that speaks very lowly of Russians and their Air Force.
3) Finally, you can give UCAV a hard time if you have a modern anti-drone EW system. Given that Russians can't even do 1) and 2), how can they possibly do this one?

Against a force not making offensive counter air patrols, small UCAVs can sneak around weak point of air defense and achieve a lot of successes. Against a force with no Air Force, UCAVs can basically do whatever it wants. That's what you see with Saudi/UAE drone strikes in Yemen.

I personally also would like to see the integration of Turkish Air-to-Air and Air-to-Surface systems integrated onto the JF17's so that the pilots have more flexibility in their operations. The AWC integration lab was setup recently and I am hoping that they are working on the integration of some of these systems into the JF17.

Turkey has alot of momentum right now.

They did integrate the ASELPOD - so looking forward to the new announcements(if any!)!

GİS is a Real-Time Operating System especially developed for hard real-time safety critical avionics applications. However, it is scalable and adaptable for embedded real-time applications in other domains as well.

GİS adheres the ARINC 653 specification for avionic applications, and fully supports the ARINC 653 Part-1 Required Services and features like Multiple-Module Schedule, Service Access Points from Part-2 Optional Services. Thus ARINC 653 is the native API of GİS, performance penalties of wrap-up functions are eliminated.

GİS adheres the POSIX® (IEEE 1003.1) standard for embedded real-time applications, and fully supports the PSE 51 Minimal Real-time System Profile, PSE 52 Real-time Controller Profile, and PSE 53 Dedicated Real-time Profile. Conformance of GİS to POSIX® standard is fully verified by the official POSIX® Conformance Test Suite.

GİS comes with an integrated development environment called TGO. TGO is an Eclipse based integrated development environment which provides features like application development, mode selection, debugging, event analysis and simulation to application developers and system integrators.

GİS is developed to be adaptable to different processor architectures and hardware configurations. It has a layered structure so that, by adapting the hardware abstraction layers, i.e. Architecture Support Package (ASP) and Board Support Package (BSP) to different architectures and hardware configurations, GİS can easily be ported on many platforms. GİS currently runs on several single core and multicore processor architectures and hardware configurations. Hardware support for new platforms is rapidly increasing.

GİS is developed fully from scratch and is not based on a present kernel. GİS is developed in accordance with DO-178B and is certifiable up to Design Assurance Level A for single core architectures. DO-178C certification pack for multicore architecture is under development.

GİS is being integrated with several platforms such as mission computer, digital flight control computer, electronic warfare systems and remote controlled weapon systems.

Not only has Turkey developed it's own operating system, Turkey is also developing military grade processors.
